HomeMy WebLinkAboutJuly 13th Highway Committee MinutesHIGHWAY COMMITTEE MEETING July 13, 2017 The Highway Committee of the Grant County Board of Supervisors met on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 9:00 A.M. at the Highway Office in Lancaster, Wisconsin. Chairman Donald Splinter called the meeting to order. Other members present were John Patcle, Lester Jantzen, Mark Stead, Grant Loy, and Highway Commissioner David Lambert. Also present was County Board Chairman Robert Keeney, Mike Bartels, Terry Solomon, Terry Stampfl, Stacey Gengler, and Jon Knautz. Joining the Committee later in the meeting was Merle Wall, Larry Kirschbaum, and Travis. Kramer. Notice of the meeting was sent to the media and the agenda was posted at the Administration Building and Highway Office. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the agenda as printed. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Donald Splinter, to approve the minutes of the June 8, 2017 meeting as printed. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to approve the payment of Vouchers #453 thru #529. Motion carried. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by John Patcle, to purchase a Bar 3 eleven foot truck box from Henderson Truck Equipment for $12,126.00. Motion carried. Action on the purchase of a air compressor was postponed to a future meeting. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Donald Splinter, to purchase a fifty five ton HD 110 XL specialized trailer with winch from Midwest Trailers for $88,300.00. Motion carried. David discussed quotes received from Aramark and Cintas for uniforms for Shop Personnel. Action on the request was postponed until after the results from the Wage and Compensation Study are presented. Larry reported that seal coats on CTH "A" (Bagley), CTH "A" (Lancaster), CTH "X", CTH "U", and CTH V' are all complete. Hot mix asphalt paving will begin next week with CTH "X" (Bagley to Wyalusing). For the first five months of 2017, Grant County is under budget $122,493.00 for the maintenance work that we provide on the State Highway System. 0n the State System, construction on Hwy 61 continues,, Hwy 133 (Woodman) is complete and open, and another PBM project (rout and seal on US 151) has been submitted to the State. Motion by Donald Splinter, seconded by Mark Stead, to approve the replacement of a culvert on CTH "M" at the corner of CTH "M" and CTH "S". Motion carried. Travis updated the Committee and discussed issues involving the construction project on CTH "A" west of Lancaster. David talked about purchasing a grapple bucket for a tractor and the history of the one the County had in the past. Mike Nugent has retired, opening up a Patrolman position in Boscobel. There has been no interest in the position from within the Highway Department. The position has been advertised in the newspapers the past several weeks. A time for interviews will have to be discussed and set. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Donald Splinter, to adjourn at 10:37 A.M. to Monday, July 24, 2017 at 8:30 A.M. regarding employment interviews for a State Patrolman Position. Motion carried.
