October 12, 2017
The Highway Committee of the Grant County Board of Supervisors met on Thursday,
October 12, 2017 at 9:00 A.M. at the Highway Office in Lancaster, Wisconsin.
Chairman Donald Splinter called the meeting to order. Other members present
were John Patcle, Lester Jantzen, Mark Stead, Grant Loy, and Highway Commissioner
David Lambert. Also present was County Board Chairman Robert Keeney. Dave Walker
and Sara Grimme joined the Committee at 9:44 A.M..
Notice of the meeting was sent to the media and the agenda was posted at the
Administration Building and Highway Office.
Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to approve the agenda as
printed. Motion carried.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the minutes of the
September 14, 2017 meeting as printed. Motion carried.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by John Patcle, to accept the September Highway
Accounts Payable Report. Motion carried.
David discussed posting/signing of the Grant County Boat Ramp Sites. There
have been complaints of overnight camping, numerous fire pits, and garbage at the
Millville site. The Committee asked David to come back at a future meeting with
a recommendation on signing that will be consistent at all Boat Ramp Sites.
David met with Charles Volenec and his son, regarding the pipe under CTH "G"
south of Cass Hollow Road, for a manure/slurry line. The surface is to be cut
today and the County crew will install the pipe next week.
For the first eight months of 2017, Grant County is over RMA budget by
$88,332.00. The County spent $161,285.00 for flood repairs. If the cost of the
flood repairs were to be reimbursed, Grant County would be under the RMA budget
by about $73,000.00.
Uniforms for the Mechanics was discussed. The cost would be $60.-$70./per
week for 6 sets of uniforms (3 mechanics, 1 welder, 1 general laborer, and
1 shop foreman), depending upon if Carharts or Dickies Brand of Uniform is chosen.
David will come back next month with a recommendation for the Committee to act on.
Paving on Hwy 61 between Lancaster and Fennimore continues. State crews are
working on a PBM crack filling project between Boscobel and Muscoda.
County crews continue to improve the grade and intersections on CTH "A"
west of Lancaster.
Dave Walker and Sara Grimme from Strand Associates, Inc. gave a brief
presentation on road and bridge projects their firm has been involved with in
Grant County and the State in the past. Strand is interested in working with the
County in upcoming bridge and road projects. Programs not yet approved by the
WisDOT include: CTH "A" (Bloomington to Martin Bridge) Road Project, and two
Town Bridges, Jimtown Road -Jamestown and Borah Road -North Lancaster.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to adjourn at 10:00 A.M.
to Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 9:00 A.M.. Motion carried.
