July 9, 2020
The Highway Committee of the Grant County Board of Supervisors met on Thursday,
July 9, 2020 at 9:00 A.M. in the South Room of the Grant County Youth and Agriculture
Building in Lancaster, Wisconsin. The meeting was available also via a Zoom meeting.
Committee members present were Mark Stead, Donald Splinter, John Patcle, Lester
Jantzen, and Highway Commissioner David Lambert. Also present was County Board
Chairman Robert Keeney and IT Director Shane Drinkwater. Attending via Zoom was
Committee member Dwight Nelson.
Notice of the meeting was sent to the media and the agenda was posted at the
Administration Building and Highway Office.
Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by John Patcle, to approve the agenda as
printed. Motion carried.
Motion by Dwight Nelson, seconded by John Patcle, to approve the minutes of the
June 11, 2020 meeting as printed. Motion carried.
Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by John Patcle, to accept the June Highway
Accounts Payable Report as reviewed by the Committee. Motion carried.
For the first five months of 2020, Grant County is over the RMA budget by
$8059.89 with $979,084.00 being spent on the State Highway System in Grant County.
Update on the County System - paving is complete on CTH "K" from Lancaster to
Mt. Ida; the existing asphalt along with four inches of rock were pulverized, watered,
bladed, and compacted in place on CTH "M CTH "M" is scheduled for paving starting
on July 13th; mowing is continuing on the County System.
Update on the State System - mowing is complete on the State System and crews
are working on guard rail repairs.
Employment update - the Patrol Section #9 position and the Operator position
are both currently being advertised and applications are being accepted; Tom Jean,
Lafayette County Highway Commissioner has announced that he plans to retire in
January 2021; and David informed the Committee that he plans on retiring in April
of 2021.
Equipment update - the two International Patrol Trucks are in service; both
new Bobcat compact loaders are in service; the new small lawn tractor is working
out well; and all tractors and mowers have been delivered and are in use.
David informed the Committee as to some changes that have been made this year
regarding the upcoming Wisconsin County Highway Association conference due to
Covid-19.
Travis Kramer joined the Committee at the end of the meeting to give an update
on the design of CTH "A" at Union, extending from CTH "D" to CTH "D". A public
meeting is being planned for later this year.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to adjourn at 9:52 A.M. to
Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 9:00 A.M.. Motion carried.
