October 20, 2022
The Highway Committee met on Thursday October 20, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at the County
Hwy Dept. main shop in Lancaster, the meeting was also available via Zoom.
The meeting was called to order by Chair Donald Splinter. Roll call was taken. Members
present: Roger Guthrie, Diane Nelson, Gary Northouse, Pat Schroeder, and Donald
Splinter. Others present were Bob Keeney, Jon Knautz, Dan McLimans, Steve Morgan,
Travis Kramer, Donna Bohnenkamp, Tonya White (via Zoom), and Amanda Degenhardt (via
Zoom).
Notice of the meeting was sent to the Herald Independent, Administration Building, posted
at the Highway Department and on the Grant County web site.
Pat Schroeder, seconded by Gary Northouse, made a motion to approve the agenda with
the removal of visiting of the outlying shop until another date. Motion carried without a
negative vote.
Roger Guthrie, seconded by Diane Nelson, made a motion to approve the September 15,
2022 Highway meeting minutes. Motion carried without a negative vote.
Gary Northouse, seconded by Pat Schroeder moved to approve the August Accounts
Payable report as reviewed. Motion carried without a negative vote.
The August Requisition was sent to the State for $152,166.80; $36,976.63 over our yearly
state budgeted amount. The overage may be made up depending on future months.
Donna is back full time. Sue continues to work at the Highway Department on Tuesdays
with the remainder 20 hours a week, working for Highway at the Finance Department.
State crews have finished the Highway 18 crack seal DMA project, and the state salt sheds
are full. They are also busy pouring cement pads for more brine tanks and continuing to
MOW.
County crews have finished the main line on CTH O. They are mowing, putting in tubes on
CTH H and paving them. The County has half of their salt in, and townships are starting to
pick up salt.
Trucks ordered last year are being built, one is at Burke the other one should be here soon.
The tar Kettle arrived today, and a tractor and double bat wing mower is ordered.
Travis Kramer gave an update on the road/bridge project funding, and future projects.
The open Mechanic Assistant position was filled by Steven Campbell, he started on Monday
October loth.
Employee retention ideas were discussed; Jon will look into them
