June 20, 2024
The Highway Committee met on Thursday June 20, 2024 at 9:00 am, at the County
Highway Department in Lancaster, the meeting was also available via Zoom.
The meeting was called to order by Chair Gary Northouse. Other members present were,
Roger Guthrie, Lester Jantzen, Diane Nelson and Pat Schroeder. Others present were Bob
Keeney, Jon Knautz, Steve Morgan, Donna Bohnenkamp, Dan McLimans, Travis Kramer
and Jason Kieler. Tonya White and Shane Drinkwater joined by zoom.
Notice of the meeting was sent to the Herald Independent, Administration Building, posted
at the Highway Department and on the Grant County web site.
Roger Guthrie, seconded by Diane Nelson, moved to approve the agenda as printed. Motion
carried without a negative vote.
Pat Schroeder, seconded by Diane Nelson, moved to approve the May 6th & May 16th
Highway meeting minutes. Motion carried without a negative vote.
Roger Guthrie, seconded by Pat Schroeder moved to approve the Accounts Payables as
reported. Motion carried without a negative vote.
Chassis bids as well as snow equipment bids were opened and read. I-States Truck Center
- Western Star, range from $137,500-$142,000; JX Truck Center- Peterbilt $143,140;
Truck Country of Iowa -Western Star $132,572; Snow equipment: Burke’s $135,989;
Henderson $151,227.00. Lester Jantzen, seconded by Pat Schroeder moved to accept the
bid from Truck Country of Iowa if the bid meets specifications. Motion carried without a
negative vote. The snow equipment was tabled until a later date.
The April Requisition has been sent to the State DOT for $169,333.75. As of April, we are
over our estimated budgeted amount by $67,523.70.
The April County accounts were also reviewed.
State crews mowed the county roads, and cleaned up storm damage by Burton.
County crews have finished CTH O and CTH T paving. They plan on sealcoating on August
5th & 6th.
The shop has been putting the new arrow board on the truck, and have been working on
the Kubota mower.
Travis updated the Committee on CTH A & CTH D.
The closing on the Patch Grove building is scheduled for July 1st, with occupancy on July
1st as well.
Jon shared information he received regarding damage to roads caused by horse and
buggies. Inviting the elders to the Highway Committee meeting was suggested. Jon will
look into it.
Diane Nelson, seconded by Lester Jantzen, moved to adjourn to Thursday July 18, 2024, at
9:00 am. Motion Carried without a negative vote.
