July 18, 2024
The Highway Committee met on Thursday July 18, 2024 at 9:00 am, at the County
Highway Department in Lancaster, the meeting was also available via Zoom.
The meeting was called to order by Chair Gary Northouse. Other members present were,
Roger Guthrie, Lester Jantzen, Pat Schroeder, and Diane Nelson by zoom. Others present
were Bob Keeney, Jon Knautz, Steve Morgan, Dan McLimans, Travis Kramer, Jason Kieler.
Tonya White, Donna Bohnenkamp, and Shane Drinkwater joined by zoom.
Notice of the meeting was sent to the Herald Independent, Administration Building, posted
at the Highway Department and on the Grant County web site.
Lester Jantzen, seconded by Pat Schroeder, moved to approve the agenda as printed.
Motion carried without a negative vote.
Roger Guthrie, seconded by Lester Jantzen, moved to approve the June 18th & June 20th
Highway meeting minutes. Motion carried without a negative vote.
Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie moved to approve the Accounts Payables as
reported. Motion carried without a negative vote.
The May Requisition has been sent to the State DOT for $134,978.46. As of May, we are
over our estimated budgeted amount by $63,553.42.
The May County accounts were also reviewed.
State crews have been wedging in Potosi, spraying guardrail, and sealing bridges.
County crews have finished shouldering CTH T and CTH O. Steve is looking at culverts on
CTH A that will need to be replaced.
The shop roof has been leaking, they will have Garry Pluemer look into it. Trucks have
been getting the DOT inspections done. Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen moved
to take two chassis to Henderson Equipment for snow equipment. Motion carried with one
negative vote.
Discussion on CTH D.
We have closed on the Black Sand building in Patch Grove, and will be moving in soon.
Three patrol sections will report out of the Black Sand building. There was discussion on
what to do with the office space of the building.
Jon informed the committee the Highway Department had a retirement. The job was posted
internally with no one from within applying. It is now offered to the public.
Jon has set up a meeting with the Amish Community to discuss road repairs.
Diane Nelson, seconded by Lester Jantzen, moved to adjourn to Thursday August 8 2024,
at 9:00 am. Motion Carried without a negative vote.
