EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, September 17, 2009
9:00 a.m.
UWEX Conference Room
Lancaster, WI
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman
Adrian were Lynn Moris, Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Kyle Vesperman, John Patcle, Ted
Bay, Dolores Schwantes, Joe Lolwing, Brian Heinrichs, Steve Zabel and Dan Jacobson.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Bob Keeney, that the meeting was in compliance
with the open meeting law. Motion carried.
Motion by Lynn Moris, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Lynn Moris, to approve the minutes of the meetings held
August 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23 & 27, 2009. Motion carried.
Steve Zabel and Dan Jacobson from the Lancaster City Police Department were present to
discuss occurrences taking place during the fair dates.
Joe Lolwing gave the grounds and maintenance report. The maintenance staff was complimented
on their work during the fair; improvements were also discussed. Hand rails at the grandstand
were primed and painted. Roof repair on the entrance to the Extension office has been
completed. Joe will check with Todd Sanger to see if he has time to make repairs on the Youth &
Agriculture Center roof after October 5. Joe will check on prices for automatic shut-off water
faucets for the buildings in the spring of 2010.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Kyle Vesperman to pass the proposed Youth & Agriculture
Center budget, including $10,000 of projected revenue, to the Finance Committee. Motion
carried.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Kyle Vesperman to publish bids for skid steer replacement
and ask for approval from Public Property Committee. Motion carried.
Ted Bay presented UW-Extension business.
Motion by Kyle Vesperman, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve funding and long-term
support for the UW-Extension Family Living position and Community Resource Development
position in Grant County. Motion carried.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz seconded by Kyle Vesperman, to approve the UW-Extension and
Youth & Ag Center vouchers. Motion carried.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Lynn Moris, to sign the agreement with Deltra 3
Engineering adding the following dates regarding the alteration of the Youth & Agriculture
Center roof. roof update options by 12/18/2009; specifications by 1/15/2010; bid opening on
3/1/2010 at 9:00 a.m. Motion carried.
Motion by Kyle Vesperman, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to reaffirm payment of the Grant
County Extension voucher dated 1/19/09 in the amount of $14,537 to be forwarded to Finance
Director for processing. Motion carried.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Kyle Vesperman, to send the proposed budget developed
by UW-Extension on to the Finance Committee. Motion carried.
Dolores, Schwantes presented Fair and Fairgrounds business.
Motion by Kyle Vesperman, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to pass the Fair budget on to the
Finance Committee as presented. Motion carried.
Motion by Kyle Vesperman to raise the amount charged for liquor liability insurance to $214.50
for organizations that sell liquor at the Grant County Fair. Motion failed.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Lynn Moris, to charge organizations that sell liquor at the
Grant County Fair $143 for liquor liability insurance. Motion carried with two no votes.
Motion by Lynn Moris, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve the Fair vouchers. Motion
carried.
Motion by Lynn Moris, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve sending the livestock claims
in the amount of $644.75 to the full County Board exluding the claim for the cat since they are
not covered. Motion carried.
Motion by Kyle Vesperman, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to adjourn. Motion carried.
