EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, April 19, 2010
9:00 a.m.
UWEX Conference Room
Lancaster, WI
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman
Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Kyle Vesperman, John Patcle, Bev Doll, Dolores
Schwantes, Joe Lolwing, Amy Dreckman, Joel Ames and Bob Middendorf.
Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Bob Keeney, the meeting was in compliance with the open
meeting law. Motion carried.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve the minutes of the meeting
held April 2, 2010, with corrections. Bloomington Fire Department and West Grant Lions Club
were also represented at the April 2 meeting. Motion carried.
Joe Lolwing gave the grounds and maintenance report. The roof on the race track concession
stand is completed. Joe shared information on the cost for the Youth & Ag maintenance staff to
complete the sealer project on the grandstand. The committee instructed Joe to find out more
information from the sales person regarding what products should be used for cleaning and what
the best temperature range should be to apply the sealer.
The Focus on Energy walk-through audit showed there would not be enough cost savings in
equipment changes to justify the cost of a feasibility study on energy savings for the Youth & Ag
Center. Therefore, the committee will move forward with the bids for the roof project.
Amy Dreckman was present to discuss Lancaster Congregational Church having a Christian
Concert in the Auditorium of the Youth & Ag Center for a fundraiser. Expenses include paying
the band $2500, advertising and other miscellaneous items.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to waive the fee for the use of the
Auditorium for the Lancaster Congregational Church on May 28, 2010. If the group collects over
$3000 a donation is suggested to the Youth & Ag Center. The amount does not need to exceed
$100. Motion carried.
Joel Ames was present to share the advertising he prepared for the car show at the Grant County
Fair.
Bev Doll presented UW-Extension business.
Bev shared information on the interim position for the Community Resource Development
position.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve UW-Extension and Youth &
Ag Center vouchers. Motion carried.
Dolores Schwantes presented Fair and Fairgrounds business.
The deadline for the Junior Fairest of the Fair application has been extended to May 13 and the
posters to 5/26. The Fairest of the Fair Committee will consist of Dolores Schwantes, Amy
Schwantes, and Bev Doll.
Kyle Vesperman will check into getting music for Thursday and Friday nights of the fair for the
entertainment tent.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve the Fair vouchers including
an additional voucher of $25 to the Fair Association that was not printed with first set. One no
vote. Motion carried.
The All-Event pass will be on sale June 1 through June 30 at a cost of $20 and July 1 through
Friday of the fair, August 20, for $25.
The City of Lancaster is considering a sponsorship of $1500 that gives the option of naming rites
to a building on the Fairgrounds.
Motion by Kyle Vesperman, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to follow advice from the Grant
County Corporation Counsel’s conclusion not to pay David Orton’s livestock claim. Motion
carried.
Motion by Kyle Vesperman, seconded by Bob Keeney, to adjourn sine die. The next committee
meeting will be held May 3, 2010. Motion carried.
