EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, August 2, 2010
8:00 a.m.
UWEX Conference Room
Lancaster, WI
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman
Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Lester Jantzen, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, Ted
Bay, Bev Doll, Dolores Schwantes, Joe Lolwing, Dick Pederson, John Adametz, Bev Lane,
Dave Timmerman, Joe Krantz and Betsy Olson.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, the meeting was in compliance with the
open meeting law. Motion carried.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the amended agenda. Motion
carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to approve the minutes of the meetings
held July 19 & 26, 2010. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, the minutes indicate the committee and
UW-Extension District Director reviewed equal opportunity regulations regarding employment
and interviewing, and that the committee appoint the District Director to serve as equal
opportunity monitor during the meeting. Motion carried.
Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to move to closed session. Roll call vote was
taken and passed unanimously. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to return to open session. Motion
carried.
Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by Bob Keeney to offer the Community Natural Resource
and Economic Development agent position to Candidate #1. Motion carried.
Candidate #1 responded to Dick Pederson, District Director, accepting the position.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy, to take a 15 minute lunch break.
Reconvene at 12:40 p.m.
Joe Lolwing gave the grounds and maintenance report. Joe was advised to wait until after the fair
to put fines in the barn areas. Joe will order three loads of gravel from Milestone and ask to have
gravel donated. He was advised not to put gravel on the lanes but to spray them. Joe will get one
load of sawdust for the barn area.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy to pay the first installment to Geisler
Brothers Company in the amount of $50,764.50 for work done on the Youth & Ag Center roof.
Motion carried.
Dolores Schwantes presented Fair and Fairgrounds business.
John Adametz and Bev Lane were present to discuss the draft horse show at the fair.
Mark Stead and Melby Bendorf Funeral Home and Crematory donated a Weber gas grill to the
Grant County Fairgrounds.
Joe Krantz was present to discuss the Demolition Derby and Night of Destruction at the fair.
Betsy Olson was present to discuss the 50/50 raffle. The 4-H Royalty will participate Sunday
evening.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to allow Dolores to purchase a cash register
from the Southwest Wisconsin Racing Association for $50. Motion carried.
The committee reviewed the missing child plan.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to pass on to the full county board the
livestock claim in the amount of $1,561.50. In the future signed documentation from person
delivering dogs to the clinic will need to be provided. A 60-day notice of rate increases will need
to be provided. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to adjourn until August 17, 2010. Motion
carried.
