EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, December 6, 2010
9:00 a.m.
UWEX Conference Room
Lancaster, WI
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman
Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Lester Jantzen, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, John
Patcle, Ted Bay, Joe Lolwing, Dolores Schwantes, John Adametz, Todd Wolf, Scott Chyko,
Angie Day and Bob Middendorf.
Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Lester Jantzen, the meeting was in compliance with the open
meeting law. Motion carried.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve the agenda. Motion
carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the minutes of the meetings held
October 13 and November 15, 2010. Motion carried.
Joe Lolwing gave the grounds and maintenance report. He reported the lighting project has been
completed in the Auditorium. Joe presented information on furnaces for the maintenance shop
and trading the skid loader. Droessler Restoration resealed cracks in the grandstand wall and
suggested to put more fill in front of the wall to avoid frost. The committee directed to clear the
road to the high school drive for safety and make a path to each building for emergency
accessibility.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen to go forward with lighting upgrade in the
remainder of the Youth & Ag Center including the North & South Rooms and the Extension
Office. Motion carried.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy to purchase a 45,000 BTU furnace from
Carroll’s for $775.00 including installation. Motion carried.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder to trade the skid loader for $949.00 plus
$10/hour for any use over 160 hours with Scott Implement. Motion carried.
Ted Bay presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business.
Dave Wachter gave his agent report.
Agent reviews were scheduled for February 18, 2011, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Bob Keeney to approve Giesler Brothers voucher.
Motion carried.
Dolores presented Fair and Fairgrounds business.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to have an entertainment tent for the
duration of the 2011 fair. Motion carried.
Discussion was held on an open class for dioramas.
Motion by Pat Schroeder seconded by Lester Jantzen to investigate the procedure to allow and
establish an open class for dioramas at the 2011 fair. Motion carried.
John Adametz was present to discuss the draft horse show.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen to hold the open class horse show on
Saturday of the 2011 fair and have Thunder Ridge Drill team participate at a time being decided
upon by the horse show superintendents. Motion carried.
Angie Day from the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce was present to give an update on the Big
Wheels event being planned for July, 2011.
Scott Chyko and Todd Wolf were present to give an update on the exhibit hall.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen to change the bathroom shower facilities
with cost savings going to upgrade roof top condensing units to 13 seer. Motion carried.
Scott Chyko, Delta 3, offered to donate bathroom stalls for the new exhibit hall.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder to approve fair vouchers. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to deny the livestock claim in the
amount of $543.93 because proper protocol was not followed. Motion carried.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to send the livestock claim from the
Lancaster Vet Clinic in the amount of $933.50 on to the full county board. Motion carried.
Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by Bob Keeney, to adjourn until December 20, 2010.
Motion carried.
