HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Feb 15 2010AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, February 15, 2010 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, John Patcle, Kyle Vesperman (arrived late), Ted Bay, Dolores Schwantes, Joe Lolwing, Amy Olson, Betsy Olson, Scott Chyko, Curt Yaun and Mike Raisbeck. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, the meeting was in compliance with the open meeting law. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the amended agenda and make correction to approve minutes of February 1 meeting. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve the minutes of the meeting held February 1, 2010. Motion carried. Joe Lolwing gave the grounds and maintenance report. Joe has been working on the information for the Focus on Energy audit and should include every building on the grounds, even the smaller ones. Joe suggested the light bulbs in the Poultry Building be replaced with larger energy efficient bulbs. Joe presented information on prices of fans for the Poultry Building and will gather more information comparing prices, brands, and horsepower of motors. He reported on cement sealer for the grandstand and will check with the Highway Department on the products they use. Scott Chyko from Delta 3 was present to finalize bid information for roof improvements for the Youth & Ag Center. The bid opening will be held on March 15, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Pre-bid inspection of the building for interested contractors has been set for March 10, 2:30 p.m. Ted Bay presented UW-Extension business. Paul Thares has accepted a position at Western Wyoming Community College working with Business Outreach and Small Business Development. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve UW-Extension and Youth & Ag Center vouchers. Motion carried. Dolores Schwantes presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Mike Raisbeck informed the committee that he has been in contact with Bill Sheffield, who may be interested in promoting races at the Grant County racetrack. Mr. Sheffield is planning to get in contact with the committee. Motion by Kyle Vesperman, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the Fair vouchers. Motion carried. M & I Bank in Lancaster has donated a money counting machine to the Grant County Fair. The committee has graciously accepted the machine. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Kyle Vesperman to book the band Fine Line, at a cost of $2300 including lights and sound, for Saturday night entertainment at the Entertainment Tent for the 2010 Grant County Fair. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to sign a contract with Dairyland Antique Club for Saturday, August 21, of the 2010 Grant County Fair. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Kyle Vesperman to start the truck and semi pull at 6:30 p.m. Saturday Night, August 21, 2010 and accept a contract with Mechanical Mule for the sled for a total amount of $1300 and a contract with PI (Pullers, Inc) to provide insurance, super stock diesel truck and semi pull. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Kyle Vesperman, that at least 4 youth need to be enrolled in a project to have classes at the fair for feasibility and logistic reasons. Motion carried. A place will be offered to display llamas at the fair for one day. The committee will wait to hear suggestions from interested parties. The committee will work on getting more hand washing stations and post signs suggesting to wash hands after touching animals. Motion by Kyle Vesperman, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to allow Gayle Mason, ADRC, to use the fair office for a drug round up during Elderfest. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Kyle Vesperman, to accept a $150,000 donation from the Ray and Kay Eckstein Charitable Trust for a new exhibit hall at the Grant County Fairgrounds. Motion carried. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to adjourn until February 17 for agent performance reviews.
