EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, March 1, 2010
9:00 a.m.
UWEX Conference Room
Lancaster, WI
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman
Adrian were Lynn Moris, Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Kyle Vesperman, John Patcle, Ted
Bay, Dolores Schwantes, Joe Lolwing, Craig Temple, Danny Shaben, Jim Ley, Ron Brisbois and
Larry Jerrett.
Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, the meeting was in compliance with the
open meeting law. Motion carried.
Motion by Lynn Moris, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the amended agenda. Motion
carried.
Motion by Lynn Moris, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the minutes of the meetings held
February 15, with correction of name spelling, and February 17, 2010. Motion carried.
Joe Lolwing gave the grounds and maintenance report. He has finished the reports for the Focus
on Energy audit. Joe installed a heater in the barn. He presented information on fans for the
poultry building. Joe is continuing to get information on sealer for the grandstand. Joe will
contact Dennis Abing to check on the electrical upgrade for the livestock facility.
Motion by Lynn Moris, seconded by Kyle Vesperman to order two Canarm fans from Langmeier
Lumber at a cost of $125 each, with Langmeier Lumber donating the shipping fee. Motion
carried.
Ted Bay presented UW-Extension business.
Dick Pederson, Southern District Director, is working on the interim position for Resource
Community Development Agent due to Paul Thares resignation.
Dolores Schwantes presented Fair and Fairgrounds business.
Jim Ley, Grant Antique Tractor Club, reported on the sales of the replica toy tractors from the
fair.
A meeting was scheduled for Tuesday evening, 7:00 p.m., in the North Room of the Youth & Ag
Center, to discuss race track negotiations with interested parties.
Ron Brisbois, Grant County Economic Development, presented information to apply for a loan
toward a new exhibit hall at the Grant County Fairgrounds.
Motion by Kyle Vesperman, seconded by Bob Keeney, to authorize Ron Brisbois, Grant County
Economic Development, to proceed with the application process to apply for a loan through the
USDA Intermediary Re-lending Program in the amount of $150,000. Motion carried.
Discussion was held on fair entertainment.
There is a correction to fair book changes. Foods judging will start at 10:00 a.m. on Friday of the
2010 fair.
A Junior Fairest of the Fair contest was discussed.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to hold a Junior Fairest of the Fair
contest in 2010, awarding a $100 cash gift, and an all-event pass to the winner. The rules of the
contest will include the contestant being 13-15 years of age, application deadline on April 30, the
board will meet May 3 to choose final applicants, final applicants will come in to be interviewed,
winner will be chosen before Memorial Day. Motion carried.
Motion by Lynn Moris, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve passing the livestock claim from
Lancaster Vet Clinic in the amount of $209.25 on to the full county board. Motion carried.
Motion by Kyle Vesperman, seconded by Bob Keeney, to move to closed session. Roll call vote
was taken and passed unanimously. Motion carried.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Lynn Moris, to return to open session. Motion
carried.
Motion by Lynn Moris, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to adjourn until March 2, 2010. The next
scheduled Ag & Extension Education Committee/Fair Board meeting will be March 15, 2010.
Motion carried.
