EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, May 17, 2010
9:00 a.m.
UWEX Conference Room
Lancaster, WI
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman
Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Lester Jantzen, Pat Schroeder, Ted Bay, Dolores
Schwantes, Joe Lolwing, Ione Meoska, Betsy Olson and Will Kashbohm.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder, the meeting was in compliance with the
open meeting law. Motion carried.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to approve the amended agenda.
Motion carried.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve the minutes of the meeting
held May 3, 2010. Motion carried.
Ione Meoska, WFNEP, presented information about the program.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to approve the county agreement letter with
WFNEP. Motion carried.
Ione Meoska, representing the Grant County Cattlemen, asked to use table and chairs for a
fundraising event.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder to waive the fee for tables and chairs
for the Cattlemen fundraiser July 2. Motion carried.
Joe Lolwing gave the grounds and maintenance report. The lights in the hog barn will be
removed and will be put in only when events are held in the building. The Public Property
Committee approved selling the John Deere Garden trailer, Billy Goat Vacuum, and a loading
chute. Joe will offer these items to other departments for one month. Joe presented information
from bids for washing and sealing the grandstand. He will get itemized bids on 1) cleaning the
grandstand area, 2) sealing the grandstand area, 3) cleaning the outside, 4) sealing the outside.
Joe presented bids on fairgrounds buildings roofs and will get more detailed bids. Joe also had
information regarding replacing the faucets in the Crops Building restrooms. Joe will check with
Myers and get references. Joe presented bid information for the sidewalk by the Youth & Ag
Center and a pad at the Livestock Facility. The committee asked that bids on projects be based
on specified criteria.
A five minute recess was taken at 10:30 a.m. to view the sidewalk.
Reconvene at 10:35 a.m.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen to have Todd Wolf Construction, LCC,
replace the sidewalk from the Extension Office door east to the driveway, approximately 86 feet,
the entrance approach to the east side hallway entrance by the Community Resource
Development office and the front steps, putting in standard size steps. This will be paid from the
road care budget. To also have Todd Wolf Construction, LCC, put in a 25 x 90 pad in front of
the west side entrance of the Livestock Facility and ask the Livestock Trust for support to pay
for this pad. Motion carried.
Ted Bay presented UW-Extension business.
Ted set a schedule of presentations that will be given by the agents.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve UW-Extension and Youth &
Ag Center vouchers. Motion carried.
Dolores Schwantes presented Fair and Fairgrounds business.
Will Kashbohm presented information on installing an ATM on the grounds.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffeolholz to enter a one-year contract with Will
Kashbohm to have an ATM machine placed in the Youth & Ag Center pending special account
approval from the finance director. Motion carried.
Dolores gave information on prices to rent tents.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Lester Jantzen to rent a 40 x 80 entertainment tent and a 20
x 30 beer hall tent. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to accept and sign the racing contract
with SPI (Simmons Promotion, Inc.) to host races at the 2010 Fair on Wednesday, August 18,
with changes. Motion carried.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to sign the contracts with the Pork
Promoters for Sunday, August 22, to run the food stand and Bagley First Responders for Friday
evening, August 20, to run the beer hall at the 2010 Grant County Fair. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to keep inside vendor tent space rent the
same and change vendor open tent rent to $10/ft for 20 feet and under and $5/ft for 20 feet and
above. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to have Dale Linneman supervise the
milkhouse during the 2010 Grant County Fair. Motion carried.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to approve the Fair vouchers. Motion
carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen to deny the claim to Family Pet Hospital,
LCC because it does not follow guidelines for dog claims. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to offer the Junior Fairest of the Fair to
Katilyn Bode, unanimous decision. Motion carried.
Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to move to closed session. Roll call vote
was taken and passed unanimously. Motion carried.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to return to open session. Motion
carried.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to adjourn until June 7, 2010. Motion
carried.
