HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes November 1 2010AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, November 1, 2010 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Lester Jantzen, Pat Schroeder, John Patcle, Ted Bay, Joe Lolwing, Cathy McPhail, Dave Timmerman, Bob Middendorf, Mark Hoffman and Angie Day. Grant Loy joined the meeting at 1:15 along with Scott Chyko, Todd Wolf, Jim Kohlenberg, Brian Norby, Kelly Ambrosy, Al McGuire, Julie Yahnke, Jody Infield and Steve Pellock. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by John Patcle, the meeting was in compliance with the open meeting law. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve the minutes of the meetings held October 18, 2010. Motion carried. Cathy McPhail shared information on counties with 4-H llama projects. Mark Hoffman was present to share information and express his support of the project. Motion Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to have a llama project at the 2011 Grant County Fair pending enough interest, further investigation and input from local vets. Motion carried. Joe Lolwing gave the grounds and maintenance report. The remaining programmable thermostats have been installed in the Youth & Ag Center and programmed. Paper work for incentives need to be completed and sent in to Focus on Energy. Joe has been advised to experiment with temperatures and monitor length of time to reach goal temperature and compare heating costs. Joe reported he is still working on lighting information for auditorium. Pat advised Joe to install a new fixture and retro fit one to in order to compare time. Fair and Fairgrounds business was discussed. Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by Pat Schroeder to accept the contract with Tri-State Truck and Tractor for the 2011 Grant County Fair on Friday, August 19, 2011 with a start time of 6:30 p.m. for a cost of $7,300.00. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder to apply $11,717 received from insurance for hail damage on fairgrounds buildings toward payment on the Youth & Agriculture Center roof. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder to invite Classy Chassis back to the 2011 Grant County Fair. Motion carried. Angie Day from the Chamber of Commerce was present to give an update on planning for the Big Wheels event the weekend of July 8 & 9, 2011. Recess at 11:30 a.m. Reconvene at 1:15 p.m. for the bid opening for the new exhibit hall. Motion by Pat Schroeder to accept bid from Wolf Construction, LLC for a pre-engineered steel frame building with alternate #2 and alternate #5. Motion failed due to lack of a second. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to accept the bid from Wolf Construction, LLC for a pre-engineered steel frame building option with alternate #2 and alternate #5 for a cost of $356,558 pending Delta 3 review of options and bids. Roll call vote. Pat Schroeder-yes, Vince Loeffelholz-yes, John Patcle-yes, Grant Loy-yes, Lester Jantzen-yes, Bob Keeney-yes, Steve Adrian-no. Motion carried. Joe will remove power poles for construction of the exhibit hall. Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by Grant Loy, to adjourn until November 15, 2010. Motion carried.
