HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes November 15 2010AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, November 15, 2010 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Lester Jantzen, Pat Schroeder, John Patcle, Ted Bay, Joe Lolwing, Ray Crippes, Keith Simmons, Kari Wetter, Darren Stanton, Joel Ames, Tom Greenwood, Todd Wolf and Scott Chyko. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen, the meeting was in compliance with the open meeting law. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve the agenda with times for items. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to approve the minutes of the meeting held November 1, 2010. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the corrected minutes of the meeting held November 5, 2010 to read: Amended motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, upon receiving further information from Delta 3 as requested by the committee to accept a bid from Wolf Construction for a wood frame building option with alternate #2 and alternate #5. Further discussion determined in order to get a similar interior finish it is more cost effective to erect a wood frame rather than a steel frame. Motion carried. One no vote. Joe Lolwing gave the grounds and maintenance report sharing lighting quote information. Ray Crippes from Crescent Electric was present to clarify answers to questions. Joe also presented information on furnace quotes for the maintenance shop and will wait for information from Focus on Energy to proceed. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to accept proposal from Crescent Electric to retrofit the lighting fixtures for a cost of $1697.66. Motion carried. Keith Simmons and Daren Stanton were present to talk about dates for races at the fairgrounds and fair in 2011. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen to enter into agreement with Simmons Promotion to have a race on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the Grant County Fair. Joel Ames from Classy Chassis was present to discuss plans for the car show at the 2011 Grant County Fair. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Bob Keeney to enter into agreement with Classy Chassis for the Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Grant County Fair. Motion carried. Kari Wetter of the Thunder Ridge Drill Team showed a demo DVD of the drill team and would like to perform at the 2011 Grant County Fair. Tom Greenwood, a member of the band the MISsFITs Band, was present to share information on his band and rates. Ted Bay presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. The use of a recording devise for the purpose of recording minutes at the meetings was discussed. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Lester Jantzen to allow the Extension Office and Fair to purchase a digital recording device. Each department will pay half of the cost. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to pay Youth & Ag Center and Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Dolores presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Color pattern were discussed for the new exhibit hall. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Lester Jantzen to have charcoal wall panels, ash grey roof and trim, and grey split face block. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder to approve Fair vouchers. Motion carried. The committee looked at the steak out of the new exhibit hall. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to add a double door with a removable center to put in the same location as the single door on the south end of the building. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Lester Jantzen to move (mirror) the restrooms to the south end of the building from the north. Motion failed with no votes. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to center the restrooms on the building. Motion failed with 3 no votes. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen to donate $50 to the Wisconsin Fair Association for carnival night. Motion carried. The cost of the Mar-Tech software for 2011 for the 4-H program is $239.00. Dolores will ask Bloomington Fair if they want to contribute to the cost of the program. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by John Patcle, to adjourn until December 6, 2010. Motion carried.
