HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes October 18 2010AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, October 18, 2010 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Lester Jantzen, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, Ted Bay, Joe Lolwing, Dolores Schwantes, Dave Timmerman, Bob Middendorf, Larry Jerrett, Don & Pat Steinbach, Tammy Wagner, Joe Krantz, Chasity Bennett and Angie Day. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, the meeting was in compliance with the open meeting law. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to approve the minutes of the meetings held October 4 & 13, 2010. Motion carried. Joe Lolwing gave the grounds and maintenance report. Lever door handles on the milkhouse in the livestock facility have been installed. Focus on Energy approved programmable thermostats with rebates for the Youth & Ag Center. Joe shared information on replacing the cooler roof at the kitchen of the livestock facility. The Committee advised Joe to further evaluate the roof over the winter. Information was shared on auditorium lighting. Joe will get final recommendation supported by Focus on Energy, the number of fixtures needed in the auditorium and the cost of redesigning the lighting package. He will also determine the cost of retrofitting light fixtures. The cost of changes will include labor amount for Youth & Ag center staff, should they make the changes. Dolores Schwantes presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Larry Jerrett, Don and Pat Steinbach were present to discuss food stand lease arrangements. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy to offer renewal of two-year leases from January 2011 through December 2012 to Jaycees and Farm Bureau. Motion carried. Joe Krantz was present to discuss the demolition derbies at the 2011 Grant County Fair. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen to offer a contract to Hard Hit Promotions in the amount of $4,500 for Sunday, August 21, 2011 with times of 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., with a rain date of Sunday, August 28, 2011. Motion carried. Angie Day and Chasity Bennett from the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce was present to discuss use of the Fairgrounds for the Big Wheels event the weekend of July 8, 9 & 10, 2011. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy, to allow the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce to use the Fairgrounds July 8, 9, & 10, 2011, paying for utilities and expenses and with the possibility of a partnership with the Grant County Fair Board and Jaycees. The Crops Building and area around the Crops Building is excluded. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to approve the fair vouchers, including the voucher for Delta 3. Motion carried. Ted Bay presented UW-Extension business. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Lester Jantzen to approve UW-Extension and Youth & Ag Center vouchers. Motion carried. Ted Bay gave the Crops & Farm Management Agent report. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to approve the 133 contract with UW- Extension. Motion carried. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to adjourn until November 1, 2010. Motion carried.
