EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, October 4, 2010
9:00 a.m.
UWEX Conference Room
Lancaster, WI
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman
Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Lester Jantzen, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, John
Patcle, Ted Bay, Joe Lolwing, Dolores Schwantes, Dick Schultz and Scott Chyko.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen, the meeting was in compliance with the
open meeting law. Motion carried.
Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the amended agenda. Motion
carried.
Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the minutes of the meeting held
September 29, 2010. Motion carried.
Joe Lolwing gave the grounds and maintenance report. He updated the committee on the
progress of auditorium lighting. Final inspection of the Youth & Ag Center roof needs to be
completed. Evans Painting completed the touch up spots needed on the roofs. Joe will wait until
after the November 1, 2010 bid opening before taking down necessary poles to allow for
construction of the exhibit building.
Ted Bay presented UW-Extension business.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to waive the fee for tables to be used by
Lancaster FFA Alumni for their December 2010 toy show. Motion carried.
Betsy Olson gave her agent report.
Dolores Schwantes presented Fair and Fairgrounds business.
Fair comments were reviewed.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Lester Jantzen to continue to promote the Junior
Fairest of the Fair as well as the Poster Contest in 2011. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to continue to designate Thursday night of the
Grant County Fair as Family Night including entertainment of Catch-A-Pig contest, mutton
bustin’ and other events decided upon. Motion carried.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Lester Jantzen to contact Tri-State Truck & Tractor pull to
see if they can provide entertainment for Friday night of the 2011 Grant County Fair. Motion
carried.
Five minute recess at 10:55 a.m.
Scott Chyko was present to discuss the Youth & Ag Center roof.
Dick Schultz representing Geisler Brothers was present to discuss a late penalty for the
completion of the Youth & Ag Center.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to penalize Geisler Brothers Company for five
days at $250 per day for a total of $1,250.00 for completing the roof after the date agreed upon in
the contract. Motion carried. One no vote.
The bid opening for the exhibit hall will be held November 1, 2010 at 1:15 p.m. in the South
Room of the Youth & Agriculture Center.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder to pass on to the full county board the
livestock claim in the amount of $500.00. Motion carried. One no vote.
