EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, August 1, 2011
9:00 a.m.
UWEX Conference Room
Lancaster, WI
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman
Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Lester Jantzen, Grant Loy, Ted Bay, Dolores
Schwantes, Carla McAndrew, Luanna Staskal, Tyler Staskal, Sharon Reed, Kari Reed, Dan
Glasson, Bethany Glasson, Roberta Glasson, Linda Hahn, Scott Wright, Jim Ley, Charlie Vogt,
Angie Day, Rick Sanson, Rob Spangler, Todd Timmerman, Todd Johnson and Betsy Olson.
The meeting notice was posted at the Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center, Administration
Building and media by Lori Vesperman.
Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to approve the minutes of the meeting
held July 18, 2011 with corrections. Motion carried.
Maintenance report was given by Carla McAndrew.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to send the Youth & Ag Center Public
Property requests onto the Public Property Committee. Motion carried.
Discussion was held on acceptance of late fair entries that have been received.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to accept all late fair entries to allow
exhibitors to participate at the Grant County Fair. Dolores has the authority to use her own
discretion if more are received. Motion carried.
Sharon and Kari Reed, Cornelia Badger 4-H Club leaders, were present to discuss a club member
not meeting their club bylaws requirement regarding club participation in order to enter projects
in the Fair.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen that the Ag & Extension Education
Committee/Fair Board supports the leaders’ decision whether or not to allow the member to enter
the Grant County Fair. Motion carried.
Linda Hahn was present to discuss use of the Eckstein Exhibit Hall for an event. They were
overall very pleased with the building but shared some concerns and suggestions, one specifically
regarding acoustics.
Scott Wright, Lifeline, presented information on acoustical panels for the Eckstein Exhibit Hall.
Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Pat Schroeder to deal with acoustics in the Eckstein Exhibit
Hall before the Fair. Motion carried.
Bob Keeney and John Patcle left to attend another meeting.
Angie Day is working on the summary for the Big Wheels event.
Rick Sanson, Rob Spangler and Todd Timmerman were present to discuss sponsorship and
entertainment by Ty Herndon and Amber Hayes at the Fair.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder to move forward with the proposal to
bring Ty Herndon and Amber Hayes to the 2011 Grant County Fair. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen to allow the 4-H Out of State Exchange
members to sell packaged popcorn during the 2011 Grant County Fair. Motion carried.
Jim Ley and Charlie Vogt, representing the Grant County Antique and Collectors Club, presented
a $500 donation for the Eckstein Exhibit Hall.
Ted Bay presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business.
The WACEC District II meeting will be hosted by Grant County on October 6, 2011.
Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by Grant Loy to send the Extension Public Property requests
in the amount of $2,850 on to the Public Property Committee. Motion carried.
Dolores Schwantes presented Fair and Fairgrounds business.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to pass on Fairground Public Property requests
in the amount of $7,200 on to the Public Property Committee. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to continue offering a meal voucher for
Tuesday evening to Fair superintendents. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen to spend $500 on WPRE Fair advertising.
Pat and Lester rescinded their motions.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen to go with the $550 proposal for Fair
advertising on Prairie du Chien radio station WPRE. Motion carried.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to adjourn until August 15, 2011 at
9:00 a.m. Motion carried.
