EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, February 21, 2011
9:00 a.m.
UWEX Conference Room
Lancaster, WI
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman
Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Lester Jantzen, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, John
Patcle, Ted Bay, Joe Lolwing, Dolores Schwantes, Betsy Olson, Todd Johnson and Bob
Middendorf.
The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Youth & Ag Center and media
outlets by Jenny Belscamper.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the amended agenda. Motion
carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the minutes of the meeting held
February 7, 2011. Motion carried.
Joe Lolwing gave the grounds and maintenance report. He gave an update on lighting project
including cost of disposing of T12 bulbs and ballasts. If someone has a use for bulbs they may
have them but Joe will keep a small supply on hand. Ballasts will be taken to West End.
Ted Bay presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business.
Ted shared information on the WACEC conference.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to pay Youth & Ag Center and
Extension vouchers. Motion carried.
Betsy Olson shared the 4-H newsletter for new members with the committee.
Dolores Schwantes presented Fair and Fairgrounds business.
Discussion was held on memory blocks and a brochure regarding fund raising for the Eckstein
Exhibit Hall.
Steve Adrian shared information from Scott Chyko, Delta 3, on progress of the Eckstein Exhibit
Hall.
Steve Adrian will donate $50 each for 3rd and 4th place prize for the emblem design contest.
Fuel prices were discussed for the carnival for the 2011 Grant County Fair.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to lock in a price for 1500 gallons of
diesel fuel for the carnival for the 2011 Grant County Fair. Motion carried.
Discussion was held on a class for antiques at the Grant County Fair.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy to have an open class Department 119 at
the Grant County Fair. Motion carried.
Discussion was held on property insurance and grant writing.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to invite Brian Carlson to the March 4
meeting to present a grant writing seminar pending the outcome of reference checks. Motion
carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve Fair vouchers. Motion carried.
A letter was presented by Bob Keeney reflecting concerns related to Grant County Leaders
Association funding priorities.
Motion by Lester Jentzen, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to pass the livestock claim in the
amount of $200.00 onto the full county board for approval. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to move to closed session. Roll call vote
was taken and passed unanimously. Motion carried.
Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to return to open session. Motion carried.
Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to adjourn until Friday, March 4,
2011. Motion carried.
