HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes January 17 2011 AGAGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, January 17, 2011 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Lester Jantzen, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, John Patcle, Ted Bay, Joe Lolwing, Dolores Schwantes, Todd Wolf, Chasity Bennett, Angie Day, Guy Nelson, Tag Schneider, Scott Chyko, Betsy Olson and Bev Doll. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen, the meeting was in compliance with the open meeting law. Motion carried. Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve the minutes of the meetings held December 20, 2010, January 10, 11, & 12, 2011. Motion carried. Guy Nelson from the Southwest Wisconsin Pullers was present to share information on their truck pulls. Tag Schneider, representing the High School Rodeo Association, was present to inquire about the new Eckstein Exhibit Hall and share that the group supports the construction of the building and would use it. Chasity Bennett and Angie Day, Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, were present to report that a one-day main event will be held on Friday, July 8, 2011. Scott Chyko and Todd Wolf gave an update on the Eckstein Exhibit Hall. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to pay the voucher in the amount of $10,810 pending request for invoices. Motion carried. Joe Lolwing gave the grounds and maintenance report. Gave a report on the lighting project. Ted Bay presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Lester Jantzen to pay Youth & Ag Center and Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Dolores Schwantes presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Rental rates for the Eckstein Exhibit Hall were discussed. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to set the following rates for the Eckstein Exhibit Hall: $500.00 for 2.5 days use for wedding receptions; $200 for all other events. Motion failed with five no votes. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen to set the following rates for the Eckstein Exhibit Hall: $500 for 2.5 days for wedding receptions; $250 for all other events. Motion carried. Rental and rates will be effective June 1, 2011. Fair entertainment was discussed. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to have the Honey Bears perform Saturday, August 20, at the 2011 Fair for a fee of $3350.00. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Bob Keeney to have the Misfits perform Friday, August 19 at the 2011 Fair 3-4 hours for a fee of $525.00. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve Fair vouchers. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Lester Jantzen to utilize web based advertising for the 2011 Grant County Fair. Motion carried. Betsy Olson presented 4-H Adult Leaders Association recommendations for Fair changes. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by John Patcle, to move to closed session. Roll call vote was taken and passed unanimously. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to return to open session. Motion carried. Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to adjourn until February 7, 2011. Motion carried.
