HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes March 4 2011AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Friday, March 4, 2011 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, Ted Bay, Dolores Schwantes, Dave Wachter, Joyce Roling, Angie Day and Brian Carlson. Lester Jantzen and John Patcle were excused. Pat Schroeder left the meeting at 4:00 p.m. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Youth & Ag Center and media outlets by Jenny Belscamper. Motion by Grant Loy seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve the minutes of the meetings held February 18 & 21, 2011. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to move to closed session. Roll call vote was taken and passed unanimously. Motion carried. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to return to open session. Motion carried. Dolores Schwantes presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Fundraising for the Eckstein Exhibit Hall was discussed. Angie Day from Lancaster Chamber of Commerce was present to discuss the Big Wheels weekend event being held in July in partnership with the Fair. The event is a fundraiser for the Chamber and an effort to promote the Eckstein Exhibit Hall. Promotion and responsibilities were discussed. Fuel prices were discussed for the carnival for the 2011 Grant County Fair. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder to enter into agreement with Livingston Oil to pay a 15¢ deposit to lock in a price for 1,500 gallons of fuel for Calkins Midway. Motion carried. Fairgrounds insurance was discussed. The Junior Fairest of the Fair and Fairest of the Fair contests will be held again in 2011. Ted Bay presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Dave Wachter was present to discuss his roles and responsibilities as Grant County Dairy and Livestock Agent. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to pass the livestock claim from Lancaster Vet Clinic on to the full county board for approval. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to pass the livestock claim from David Orton on to the full county board for approval recommending paying ½ of the total amount of $1,200. Motion carried. Brian Carlson presented information on writing grants to support county fairs. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Bob Keeney, to adjourn until March 22, 2011. Motion carried.
