HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes May 16 2011AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, May 16, 2011 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Lester Jantzen, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, John Patcle, Ted Bay, Dolores Schwantes, Todd Johnson, Ione Meoska, Angie Day and Dave Timmerman. The meeting notice was posted at the Extension Office and Youth & Ag Center by Lori Vesperman. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve the minutes of the meetings held May 2 & 3, 2011. Motion carried. Ted Bay presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by Grant Loy to pay Youth & Ag Center and Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Todd Johnson and Ted Bay presented information on recognition displays of contributors to the Eckstein Exhibit Hall. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen to have Southwest Wisconsin Vocational School do the labor for the patio with provided equipment using bricks donated by Grant Loy. They will start on the project after fair and complete it in October. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to charge $150 for a single brick and $300 for a double brick including engraving. The single brick will have a maximum of 3 lines of print with 13 characters per line while the double brick will have a maximum of 6 lines print with 13 characters per line. Three no votes. Motion failed. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to charge $150 for a single brick and $250 for a double brick including engraving. The single brick will have a maximum of 3 lines of print with 13 characters per line while the double brick will have a maximum of 6 lines print with 13 characters per line. Motion carried. Discussion was held on the maintenance work at the Youth & Ag Center and Fairgrounds. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to compensate Brian Heinrichs for supervisor pay from the date the supervisor position was void until the position is filled at the base rate of the supervisor position pay scale. Motion carried. Ione Meoska presented information requesting continued support of the WNEP (Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program). Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to continue support of the WNEP. Motion carried. The Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor position was reviewed. Dolores Schwantes presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder to accept the beer contracts with the West Grant Lions, Bloomington Fire Department and food contract with the Pork Promoters. Motion carried. Angie Day was present to discuss the Big Wheels event and Grand Opening of the Eckstein Exhibit Hall. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve Fair vouchers. Motion carried. Donation of memorial benches was discussed. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to allow memorial benches of the same style and color placed around the Eckstein Exhibit Hall. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to hold a silent auction at the Grand Opening. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to allow Dolores to make and execute a plan for vendor space in the Eckstein Exhibit Hall. Motion carried. Motion by Lester Jantzen, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to adjourn until May 18 for a walk through of the Eckstein Exhibit Hall. Next schedule meeting will be held June 20, 2011. Motion carried.
