EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING

The meeting was called to order by the Committee Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to
Patcle was Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, Roger Guthrie, Betsy
Olson, Bev Doll, Amy Olson, Jack Johnson, Jill Vanschyndle, Abigail Loeffelholz, Brooke
Samuelson, Jim Brien, Pat Brien, Dick Grindell, Trenton Cornell, Teresa Droessler, Rick
Knuston, Jackie Edge and Chuck and Lynn Waterman.
The meeting notices were posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag
Center, and media by Amy Olson.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the amended agenda. Motion
carried.
Chuck Waterman gave the carnival report.
Weapons on the grounds were discussed. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to
enact no guns on the grounds during the Fair. Motion carried.
Jack Johnson reported a peaceful Wednesday night. Jackie Edge stated the squad schedule was
fully staffed for all events. Betsy Olson gave the judging report.
Abigail Loeffelholz along with her FFA advisor Jill Vanschyndle was present to ask to have her
junior class beef fair entry accepted. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to
allow Abigail's to enter the 2012 Fair. Vince Loeffelholz abstained. Motion carried. Brooke
Samuelson was present to ask to have her swine fair entry accepted. Motion by Vince
Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy to accept Brooke's entry in the 2012 Fair. Motion carried.
Pat Brien asked that a project entry be allowed into open class. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded
by Roger Guthrie to allow the entry into the appropriate class. Motion carried. Teresa Droessler
ask that Bethany be allowed to enter two omitted canning entries into the fair. Motion by Pat
Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to allow the entries. Motion carried. Trenton Cornell
was present to ask to enter junior class pigs into the fair. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by
Pat Schroeder to allow the entries. Motion carried. Fair staffed asked for advice on allowing
entry of a toy gun wood working project. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Bob Keeney to
allow the wood working project into the fair. Motion carried.
Rick Knutson was present to share plans on the Veterans Memorial Fundraiser on the
fairgrounds in August and ask permission to place banners on the grounds during the fair to
advertise the Potosi Brewery Fundraiser. The committee advised that the banners be placed on
the snow fence on the perimeter.
Discussion was held on the Tommy Greenwood Memorial use of the fair's permits. Motion by
Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder to allow the Tommy Greenwood Memorial to use
the Fair's beer and food permit pending information on having a licensed bartender. Motion
carried.
Jim Hying requested a gator.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to approve the Grant County Fair Public
Property request for $6,105.00. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to approve the Grant County Fairgrounds
Maintenance Public Property request for $6981.80. Motion carried.
Discussion was held on furnace/ac update for the North Room of the Youth & Ag Center.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy to approve the $2270.00 Extension Office
Public Property request. Motion carried.
Discussion was held on glass display cases. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Grant Loy to
accept the glass cases contributed by Mark Stead. Motion carried.
Maintenance preparation for the fair has been outstanding.
Recess until 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2012. Meeting brought back to order. Motion by Bob
Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to approve Fair vouchers. Motion carried. Recess until
10:00 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2012.
