HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes April 16 2012AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, April 16, 2012 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman Steve Adrian. Present, in addition to Chairman Adrian were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Lester Jantzen, Grant Loy, Pat Schroeder, John Patcle, Bev Doll, Amy Olson, Linda Hahn, Joe Krantz, Angie Day, Rick Sanson and Bob Middendorf. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center, and media by Jenny Dixon. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the minutes of the meeting held March 19, 2012. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Pat Schroeder to accept donations of gates purchased by the Livestock Trust. The gates will not leave the fairgrounds facilities and will be identified by white and blue markings. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder to enter into an agreement with the Grant County Highway Department to lay asphalt to fix section C, D, E & F road repairs to the fairgrounds as detailed in the estimate proposal presented. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to give a recommendation in response to the issue question: "should we replace the vacant supervision position or do something else?" The recommendation is to have two full-time maintenance workers at the Youth & Ag Center and one limited term employee summer position with the Fair Secretary acting as the supervisor. Roll call vote. Voting yes – Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, Bob Keeney, Steve Adrian; voting no –Vince Loeffelholz, Lester Jantzen. Motion carried. Joe Krantz, Hardhit Promotions, was present to discuss the Demolition Derby and Night of Destruction at the 2012 Grant County Fair. Linda Hahn was present to discuss Avery's Race fundraiser to be held in the Eckstein Exhibit Hall in July 2012. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to waive the fee for the Eckstein Exhibit Hall for Avery's Race. A donation for covering costs would be greatly appreciated but not required. Motion carried. Bev Doll presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy to pay Extension and Youth & Ag Center vouchers. Motion carried. Steve Adrian will represent the Extension Education Committee at the River Ridge Award banquet to present the Farm Days Progress Scholarship to Shea Esser. Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Lester Jantzen to discontinue the superintendent meeting the week of the fair. Motion carried. Angie Day was present to discuss the Texaco Country Music Showdown preliminary contest and the 175th birthday of the City of Lancaster. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Bob Keeney to have the Texaco Country Music Showdown preliminary contest held in conjunction with the current Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Grant County Fair Board Big Wheels Event. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to allow the City of Lancaster to use the facilities including the Crops Building on July 20, 2012, during the City of Lancaster's 175th Birthday Celebration. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to accept Tower Sound presentation for $1,420 and shipping on speaker and driver. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy to pay Fair vouchers. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder to allow the Holstein District Show, being held June 22, 2012, use of Fairground facilities at no cost, but pay for utilities and expenses.
