HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes June 18 2012AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, June 18, 2012 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to Chairman Patcle were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Roger Guthrie, Dwight Nelson, Grant Loy, Larry Wolf, Bev Doll, Ted Bay, Amy Olson, Rick Place, Kent Koehen, Linda Hahn, Arin Crooks, Dave Wachter, Ione Meoska, Cindy Busch, Cathy McPhail, Steve Braun, Angie Day and Dave Timmerman. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center, and media by Jenny Dixon. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Dwight Nelson, to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Dwight Nelson, to approve the minutes of the meeting held May 21, 2012. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report. Under Facility Maintenance John stated that on April 16 the Ag & Extension Committee voted not to go with a facility maintenance supervisor, same as Sheriff's Department decision. Lighting improvement in the show barn was discussed. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Grant Loy to accept a donation of five lights from Andy Buttles for the Show Barn. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to accept a donation of $500.00 from Too-Keene dairies for lighting at the Show Barn. Motion carried. Rick Place and Kent Cohen were present to give an update on the Lancaster Sluggers batting cage and present another check for $500 for compensation. Linda Hahn was present to discuss building use for the cancer walk. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Bob Keeney to waive the fee for the Youth and Ag Center for the Grant County Cancer Coalition fundraising event September 15, 2012. Motion carried. Arin Crooks, Grant County Cattlemen was present to discuss use of tables and chairs. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to waive the fee for use of tables and chairs for the Grant County Cattlemen on June 29, 2012. Bev Doll presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. The Grant County Extension Agents gave presentations on their corresponding programs. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy to pay Extension and Youth & Ag Center vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Steve Braun reviewed the emergency plans for the 2012 Grant County Fair and events on the Fairgrounds. Angie Day was present to discuss the Big Wheels event. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Dwight Nelson to pay Fair and Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Bob Keeney to hold off on the wine slush machine for the 2012 fair and discuss it for next year's fair. Motion carried. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Roger Guthrie to offer American Legion gate sellers $1,000.00 for the 2012 Grant County Fair for their services. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Roger Guthrie to rent bleachers to Thunder in the Valley Bagley 4th of July event for $300 a set in exchange for $300 worth of Fair advertising at their event. Motion carried. Rick Sanson, with Queen B, contacted Amy regarding T.J. Hodges being available to provide entertainment while passing through during fair time. Entertainment for the 2012 fair is already established. Amy offered to meet this fall to discuss entertainment options for the 2013 fair. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy, to pass on to the full county board the livestock claims from Lancaster Veterinary Clinic in the amount of $953.40. Motion carried.
