HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes May 21 2012AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, May 21, 2012 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by County Board Chairman Larry Wolf. Present, in addition to County Board Chairman Wolf were Bob Keeney, John Patcle, Vince Loeffelholz, Roger Guthrie, Dwight Nelson, Bev Doll, Ione Meoska, Amy Olson, Pat Schroeder, Steve Adrian, Jim Hying, Angie Day, Mary Peterson and Bob Middendorf. Election of officers was held. Bob Keeney nominated John Patcle for chairman. Motion by Dwight Nelson, seconded by Roger Guthrie to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for John Patcle. Motion carried. Roger Guthrie nominated Bob Keeney for vice chair. Motion by Dwight Nelson, seconded by Roger Guthrie to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Bob Keeney. Motion carried. Bob Keeney nominated Vince Loeffelholz for secretary. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Bob Keeney to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Vince Loeffelholz. Motion carried. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center, and media by Jenny Dixon. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve the minutes of the meeting held April 16, 2012. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report. Maintenance work hours were reported. Brenda will be on the fairgrounds 32 hours a week and at the administration building 8 hours. In addition to Brian plans are to hire a full time permanent employee at the fairgrounds and also a part time limited term employee. Lighting improvement in the show barn was discussed. Bev Doll presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Roger Guthrie to pay Extension and Youth & Ag Center vouchers. Motion carried. Ione Meoska presented a county agreement letter for the Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Dwight Nelson to sign the letter and support WNEP. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Jim Hying, representing the American Legion, was present to discuss selling tickets at the gate at the Grant County Fair. The Promote the Fair Contest for youth groups was discussed. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Bob Keeney to continue with the Promote the Fair Contest. Motion carried. Angie Day was present to discuss the Big Wheels event. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Roger Guthrie to spend up to $1,000 for rain insurance for the Big Wheels event. Motion carried. Mary Peterson was present to discuss the Veteran's Memorial Fundraiser. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Roger Guthrie to extend use of the Crops Building with the Youth & Ag Center for the Veteran's Memorial Fundraiser. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Dwight Nelson to pay Fair vouchers. Motion carried. Bagley 4th of July event, Thunder in the Valley, would like to use bleachers for their event. Pat Schroeder informed the committee that he was meeting with the general manager of Queen B at 2:00 p.m. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to amend the minutes of the April 16 meeting to show that Rick Sanson was in attendance. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Dwight Nelson to adjourn until June 18, 2012. Motion carried.
