EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Tuesday, September 4, 2012
9:00 a.m.
UWEX Conference Room
Lancaster, WI
The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to Chairman
Patcle were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Roger Guthrie, Grant Loy, Pat Schroeder, Bev Doll,
Amy Olson, Kolten Bartell, Rick Tobin, and Jane Tennesen.
The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag
Center, and media by Jenny Dixon.
Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve the minutes of the meeting held
August 6, 2012. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to approve the minutes of
the meetings held August 16-19 with the correction on August 16 that Vince Loeffelholz
abstained regarding Abigal Loeffelholz's fair entry request. Motion carried.
Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report.
Brenda Halverson was hired as a full-time Youth & Ag Center and Fairgrounds maintenance
employee as of August 31.
Bev Doll presented Grant County Extension business.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Pat Schroeder to approve Extension & Youth & Ag
Center vouchers. Motion carried.
Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business.
Kolten Bartell and Rick Tobin were present to discuss placement and payment of one of Kolten's
extra swine from the fair.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to pay Kolten Bartell the difference of the
buyer's offer ($250) compared to market price received ($138) and send on to the Livestock
Auction Committee. Motion carried.
Reviewed success and improvements for food and beer concessions.
Discussion was held on the fee for use of the Eckstein Exhibit Hall for a memorial for Bill Lane.
Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Bob Keeney, to waive the fee for the Eckstein Exhibit Hall
for Bill Lane's memorial. A donation would be accepted. Motion carried.
Discussion was held on purchase of a furnace for the North Room.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to go with Carroll's Plumbing & Heating to
purchase a furnace for the North Room of the Youth & Ag Center and purchase it before October
1, 2012. Motion carried.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to approve Fair vouchers. Motion carried.
Received a letter concerning fair volunteers. No action was taken.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to adjourn. Meetings will be held on
September 18 at 4:30 to review budgets, October 2 regarding Memorandum of Understanding
between Grant and Lafayette County and UWEX Cooperative Extension, and October 15 at 9:00
for the monthly Ag & Extension Education Committee Meeting and Fair Board meeting. Motion
carried.
