HomeMy WebLinkAboutAg & Ext Minutes March 4 2013AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, March 4, 2013 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to Chairman Patcle were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, Larry Wolf, Bev Doll, Amy Olson, Karin Peacock, Betsy Olson and Rick Sanson. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center, and media by Jenny Dixon. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the minutes of the meeting held February 18, 2013. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report. Amy o btained more information on costs of locating underground utilities near the Eckstein Exhibit Hall from GLS and Vanguard. Discussion was held on a request for use of the Eckstein Exhibit Hall for a household sale. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to charge $375 for the use of the Eckstein Exhibit Hall for a household sale with set up on the first day and sale on the second day. Motion carried. Bev Doll presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Bev shared information on the WACEC Conference to be held in April. Betsy Olson informed the committee of her acceptance of a position as a Regional Extension Educator in Anoka County Minnesota and thanked them for the opportunity to work in Grant County. Betsy suggested putting the poultry managerial project on hold. Karin Peacock, Grant County Master Gardener President, was present to discuss use of the Crops Building May 10 & 11, 2013 for their plant sale. She also shared that the Grant County Master Gardeners gave two $500 scholarships to UW-Platteville students. They plan to redo the flower area by the UW-Extension Office and Youth & Agriculture Center sign and make a donation to the Eckstein Exhibit Hall memorial garden by purchasing a brick. Karin also requested that the Fair continue the Bucket of Blooms for the 2013 fair and differentiate between the adult and youth projects. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Thursday night entertainment was discussed. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to move to closed session pursuant to Wisconsin Statute Section 19.85(1)(e) for the purpose of deliberating or negotiating the purchasing of public properties, the investing of public funds or conducting other specified public business, whenever competitive or bargaining reasons require a closed session as it relates to contract discussions for entertainment at the 2013 Grant County Fair. Roll call vote unanimous. Motion carried. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to return to open session. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to approve Steve McPhail’s costs of $2,400 to repair holding pens and $318.62 for two gates in the swine barn and send on to the Livestock Auction Committee for their assistance of payment. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to try one or two IAFE agriculture promotional activities. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to pass the livestock claim from Lancaster Veterinary Clinic in the amount of $274.55 to be paid in full, on to the full county board. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy to adjourn until March 18, 2013. Motion carried.
