HomeMy WebLinkAboutAg & Ext Minutes May 20 2013AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, May 20, 2013 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to Chairman Patcle were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, Roger Guthrie, Larry Wolf, Ted Bay, Amy Olson, Jeff Anderson, Cari Schaffer, Amy Kwallek, Jack Johnson, Cindy Busch, Ione Meoska, Cathy McPhail, and Charisse Orth. Larry left meeting at 9:50. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office and Youth & Ag Center and media by Lori Vesperman. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Bob Keeney, to approve the minutes of the meeting held April 15, 2013. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report. Jeff Anderson was present to share information regarding wireless access on the fairgrounds. He will do a test during the Dairy Breakfast and report back with more information. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Grant Loy to allow John Vesperman to clip the grounds area including the area behind barn with same stipulations as last year. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to approve Youth & Ag Center and Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Discussion was held on replacing tires for the Ford pickup truck. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Grant Loy to buy tires for the Ford truck from Dewey’s Tires. Motion carried. Discussion was held on the swine barn roof leaning. It is not covered by insurance due to settling and deterioration. Pat Schroeder rescinded his motion from the April 15, 2013, meeting and Bob Keeney rescinded his second, regarding Delta 3 looking at the swine building. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to give Amy permission to contact the insurance agent for contacts along with contacting Heritage Movers regarding the swine building. Motion carried. Ted presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Cari Schaffer, from the Lancaster Vet Clinic and Grant County Pound, was present to discuss livestock claim expenses. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to discontinue crediting the $25 Sheriff’s pick up fee to the county for processing of claimed animals. Motion carried. Ted updated the committee on the 4-H Youth Development Educator position. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to have Bob Keeney and John Patcle participate in the visioning session for the 4-H Youth Development Educator position. Motion carried. Ione Meoska and Cindy Bush gave their WNEP program report. Ione Meoska presented an annual letter of agreement to the committee. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to accept the WNEP annual letter of agreement. Motion carried. Cathy McPhail introduced Charisse Orth as the Intern 4-H Youth Development Program Assistant. Charisse will be in the office until August 31, 2013. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder to approve Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Amy Kwallek and Amy Olson shared progress on plans for the Summer Festival. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to have Amy Kwallek purchase rain insurance for the Badger State Tractor Pull at the Summer Festival. Motion carried. Jack Johnson was present to discuss security at the Fair. Advertising with Fox 47 was discussed, but will not be done this year. Money will be raised for food pantries through the Dream Big Food Drive. Calkins Midway will discount wristbands $2.00 on Friday for two non-perishable food items. A 4-H Club and FFA contest will be held with the Fair Board giving a Happy Joe’s pizza party to the group that has the most donations by weight. Zoli’s Wood Carving is interested in coming to the 2013 Fair. Rooms were booked for next year’s Fair Convention being held January 5-9. The Grant County Fair paid Uppenas directly for their fair pig. Amy will send a letter to the Fennimore Butcher Shop requesting reimbursement for the pig. Fair judge mileage was discussed. It will stay the same since it has already been budgeted. The West Grant Saddle Club insurance policy has been approved. Jacob Burks will be getting it to Amy. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Bob Keeney to approve Fair and Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to pass the livestock claim from Lancaster Veterinary Clinic in the amount of $380.30 to be paid in full on to the full county board. Motion carried. The Owner’s Claim for Damages to Animals from Mark Landon in the amount of $400 was reviewed with no action taken. Set agenda for June 17, 2013, meeting. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy, to adjourn until June 17, 2013. Motion carried.
