HomeMy WebLinkAboutAg & Ext Minutes Sept 16 2013AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, September 16, 2013 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to Chairman Patcle were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, Roger Guthrie, Larry Wolf, Ted Bay and Amy Olson. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center and media by Jenny Dixon. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve the minutes of the fair meetings held August 15, 16, 17 and 18, 2013. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve the minutes of the Ag & Extension Education/Fair Committee meetings held August 5 and 26, 2013. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report. Amy will make the left over sawdust available through a post on Facebook and ask for a donation. Motion by at Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to approve the Youth & Agriculture Center budget for 2014 ($138,219.00). Motion Carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy to approve Youth & Ag Center vouchers. Motion carried. Ted Bay presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Sarah Hopkins, 4-H Youth Development Agent, will start on October 1. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to include amount of insurance change ($4,461) in the base for the 2014 budget. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder to approve sending on the Extension Office budget for 2014 ($426,126.00). Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to approve Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Amy presented a letter to the committee from Southwest Opportunities. They will not be operating the grandstand food stand in the future. Amy will advertise to get a pool of interested groups. Summer Festival was discussed. A profit was made including the insurance payment. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder make payment toward Eckstein Exhibit Hall with profit from Summer Festival. Summer Festival will be scheduled for 2014. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to nominate Mark Stead for the VIP Award and Troy Dilley and the Lancaster High School art class for the Volunteer Group Appreciation Award for the Fair Convention. Motion carried. The fall district fair meeting will be held in Vernon County in Viroqua on Wednesday, October 2. The extra pig loaded to go to Webers died on the way. Amy received an inquiry regarding raising premiums to cover such happenings. Webers is covering the cost this year. Bob will talk to the Livestock Auction Committee regarding animals not allowed to sell because of not making grade. Comments on the 2013 fair were reviewed. Amy presented budgets for the Fair and Fairgrounds. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Grant Loy to send the Fair and Fairgrounds budget on as presented ($305,614.00). Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Pat Schroeder to approve Fair and Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. The wage study was discussed. Amy moved the Fair Manager position up a step, one pay grade above where it was previously. Discussion was held on how to manage heat in the Eckstein Exhibit Hall for the winter. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to pass the livestock claim from Lancaster Veterinary Clinic in the amount of $219.99 to be paid in full on to the full county board. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy, to adjourn until October 28, 2013. Motion carried.
