HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Ag & Ext February 18 2013AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, February 18, 2013 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to Chairman Patcle were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Pat Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Grant Loy, Bev Doll, Larry Wolf (arrived 10:50), Amy Olson, Ryan McCall and Rick Sanson. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center, and media by Jenny Dixon. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve the minutes of the meeting held January 21, 2013. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report. Cost of locating underground utilities near the Eckstein Exhibit Hall can be done at an initial cost of $1,200 with an additional cost of $300-$400 each time locating is done. This information was from Tri-County Locators. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Roger Guthrie to approve Youth & Ag Center and Fairground vouchers. Motion carried. Bev Doll presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Limited term employment for maternity leave was discussed. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to fill a limited term position due to maternity leave if funding is available from 2012 carryover to support the position. Motion carried. Betsy Olson accepted a position in Anoka County Minnesota. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Thursday night entertainment was discussed. Twinkle the Clown will be in the kids tent Friday and Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Summerfest events were discussed. Vendors will be invited at no cost. The Tri-County Pullers, Inc. contract was signed. Dave Wachter shared information on swine vaccination recommendations. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy, to pay the Fair vouchers. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to move to closed session pursuant to Wisconsin Statute Section 19.85(1)(e) for the purpose of deliberating or negotiating the purchasing of public properties, the investing of public funds or conducting other specified public business, whenever competitive or bargaining reasons require a closed session as it relates to contract discussions for entertainment at the 2013 Grant County Fair. Roll call vote unanimous. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to return to open session. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder to go into agreement with WGLR for entertainment for Saturday night of the 2013 fair contingent upon sound and stage requirements falling within budget. Motion carried. Texaco Country Showdown preliminaries at Summerfest was discussed. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to hold the Texaco Country Showdown preliminaries at Summerfest. Motion carried. Under public comment Grant Loy stated that this is the 75th year of the Great River Road. Stonefield is having a festival June 15. He is attending a Hidden Valleys meeting and will see what they are doing. Grant feels it should be promoted and have recognition. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to adjourn until March 4, 2013. Motion carried.
