HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes December 16 2013AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, December 16, 2013 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to Chairman Patcle were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, Roger Guthrie, Larry Wolf, Bev Doll, Amy Olson, Nikki Nemitz, Dave Timmerman, Jim Lory and Amy Kwallek. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center and media by Jenny Dixon. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve the minutes of the Ag & Extension Education/Fair Committee meeting held November 18, 2013. Motion carried Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report. Maintenance staff found the middle sink in the men’s restroom of the Eckstein Exhibit Hall was partially frozen during the cold weather. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Grant Loy to approve Youth & Ag Center vouchers. Motion carried. Bev Doll presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Nikki Nemitz was present to discuss holding a fundraiser in the Youth & Ag Center and Eckstein Exhibit Hall for a family with expenses related to a health issue. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to allow use of the Youth & Ag Center and Eckstein Exhibit Hall on March 1, 2014, by Nikki Nemitz for a fundraiser. Fees will be waived and a donation accepted if the group chooses to give one. Motion carried. Dave Wachter was present to share information regarding the application process for Farm Tech Days. Bev gave her agent report. Bev presented agent contracts. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to approve Extension Agent contracts. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Roger Guthrie to approve Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Wolf Construction & Headz Up have decided to no longer sponsor the entertainment tent at the fair. Wisconsin Bank & Trust will be the sponsor in 2014. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Roger Guthrie to approve Fair and Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Jim Lory, representing Westview Methodist Church, was present to discuss working the food stand at the 2014 fair. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to have the antique tractor pull on Saturday night. Motion carried. Contracts were signed with Classy Chassis for the 2014 fair and Lancaster Sluggers for use of the Eckstein Exhibit Hall. Summer Festival was discussed. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy, to have stock car races for entertainment at the 2014 Summer Festival which is held jointly with the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce. Motion carried. Alliant Energy would like to permission to make repairs without contacting personnel at the time of the repairs. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to sign a 3-year contract with Alliant Energy agreeing to give Alliant Energy permission to make repairs on the Grant County Fairgrounds, if necessary, without needing to make contact with personnel at the time of the repairs. Motion carried. Amy would like to apply for a grant through the Dubuque Racing Association to get defibrillators for the Livestock Facility and Eckstein Exhibit Hall. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney, to allow Amy to apply for a grant through the Dubuque Racing Association and send the request on to the full County Board for approval. Motion carried. Discussion was held on upgrading restrooms at the Fairgrounds. It will cost $3,000-$5,000 to get plans developed for the Youth & Ag Center. Larry left the meeting at 11:00 a.m. Motion Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to have Amy put together a fruit basket and gas gift card for Bob Stader for removing manure from the grounds. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve sending the livestock claim from Lancaster Veterinary Clinic in the amount of $708.00 to be paid in full on to the full county board. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to adjourn until January 20, 2013. Motion carried.
