HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes July 22 2013AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, July 22, 2013 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to Chairman Patcle were Bob Keeney, Vince Loeffelholz, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, Roger Guthrie, Larry Wolf, Bev Doll, Amy Olson, Dave Wachter, Duane Schuler and Jacob Burks. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center and radio station by Jenny Dixon. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve the minutes of the meeting held July 8, 2013. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report. The IT department is still working on wireless access on the Fairgrounds. Gary Simons, Potosi, and Susan VanNatta, Lancaster, have been hired as LTEs. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Grant Loy to approve Youth & Ag Center and Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Bev Doll presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Bev Doll informed the committee that preliminary interviews for the 4-H & Youth Development Educator will be held on July 30 in Madison. Final interviews will be held on August 26 in Lancaster. Dave Wachter gave the agent report. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to approve Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to select the top three outstanding fair persons, Vera Gotzinger, Vernon Kruse and Bev Lane, from the list voted on by superintendents. Motion carried. Motion by Bob Keeney, seconded by Grant Loy to keep the meal prices the same, $6.00, for superintendents. Motion carried. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder to set beer prices at $3.00 for 1, $10.00 for 4 and $20.00 for 9. Motion carried. West Grant will provide ambulance service Saturday night and receive $100.00. The refrigerator under the grandstand is not working. Murray’s Dairy & Refrigeration has a used one for $100.00. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to purchase a used refrigerator from Murray Dairy & Refrigeration for $100.00. Motion carried. Additional bleachers will be used for the concert, same as last year. People can bring their own chairs to sit in grass area. Bev Lane donated two benches in the Livestock Facility in memory of Bill Lane. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to allow groups to sell raffle tickets in the WGLR booth and to stay in that area as other vendors are required to do. Motion carried. Amy Kwallek asked the Fair to be represented at the Grant County Tourism meetings. Amy, Pat or Grant will attend. Jennifer Dean is getting married on the race track and would like to use the bleachers. She can use them for $100 per set. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz to approve Fair and Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Vanguard is coming on Friday, July 26, to look at location of underground private wires. Location does not have to be done within 10 days of the event. Amy will talk to Travis Kramer from the Grant County Highway Department for GPS mapping. Duane Schuler, Dubuque, was present to request bringing his race car track to the Grant County Fair. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Bob Keeney to accept Duane Schuler’s proposal to bring his race car track to the Fair for one year. He will pay the $140 space fee plus $5/day for electricity. Motion carried. The following closing schedule for Fair Board members for the 2013 Fair was set: Wednesday – Roger, Thursday – Grant, Friday – Bob, Saturday – Vince, Sunday – Pat. Linda Brandemuehl will provide trophies and ribbons for the Muttin Bustin. Amy bought two additional helmets. The fair will request the use of a 20 x 40 tent with sides from the Patch Grove Fire Department. Cost is $145 for the first day and $25 for each additional day. Jacob Burks attended the meeting to keep the committee updated with their activities at the horse arena at the Fairgrounds. He voiced it would be nice to have water there for the animals. Set agenda for August 5, 2013, meeting. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to adjourn until August 5, 2013. Motion carried.
