HomeMy WebLinkAboutAg & Ext Minutes December 1 2014AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, December 1, 2014 9:00 a.m. The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to Patcle were Grant Loy, Pat Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Mark Stead, Dan Timmerman, Bob Keeney, Bev Doll, Ted Bay, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Matt Hanson, Todd Johnson, Sarah Hopkins, Denny Noble, Carrie Reed and Dave Timmerman. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center and media by Jenny Dixon. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to approve the minutes of meetings held November 3, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. and the joint meeting with Lafayette County at 7:00 p.m. Corrections on the 7:00 p.m. meeting include removing Roger Guthrie from the list of those who attended and include the word Committee before Chairperson John Patcle. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report. The entrance to the east gate on the fairgrounds was widened. Gary Schmidt will be fixing the manhole this week. Informational packets on the handicap restroom in the Youth & Ag Center will be coming from IIW. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve Youth & Ag Center vouchers. Motion carried. Bev Doll presented Grant County UW-Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve UW-Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Discussion was held on the CNRED position that will be vacant January 1, 2015 due to the resignation of Todd Johnson. Matt Hanson, Southwest Region District Director, stated the state has their portion of funds to support the position. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to fill the CNRED position at a salary yet to be determined. Motion carried unanimously. Further discussion was held. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to set the pay range for the CNRED position at $45,000-$52,000. One no vote. Dan Timmerman abstained. Motion carried. Todd Johnson suggested that another Community Design Team member take over the account when Todd leaves. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Discussion was held on a digital sign for the fairgrounds. The sign will be paid for through donations. The goal is to order by the February 1, 2015. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Dan Timmerman to get a 32 x 96 double face LED sign and include the base with a cost not to exceed $20,000. Motion carried. Carrie Reed was present to request having an open class swine show Thursday night of the fair. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to offer an open swine class on a trial basis for the 2015 Grant County Fair. It will be a terminal show. Motion carried. Amy purchased an 8’5” snow plow for the fairgrounds truck through Bennett’s for $5,000. Discussion was held on the upcoming fair convention being held in January. Entertainment for the 2015 fair was discussed. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Grant Loy, to have the local tractor pull on Saturday night of the fair. Motion carried. The Farm Bureau contract was signed. Fair book changes were reviewed. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to accept the Arts & Crafts department changes. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Grant Loy, to accept Dairy changes. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to accept Foods & Foods Revue changes. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to have two poultry judges for the 2015 fair. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to accept the Robotics/Lego changes. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to change fair date weigh in times for sheep from 12:00-2:00 p.m. to 12:00-1:00 p.m. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to move tie out time for beef to no earlier than 9:30 p.m. along with tie out not being mandatory. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to change photography verbage. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Mark Stead, to accept changes to Lego/Knex. Motion carried. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve Fair and Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to approve sending the livestock claim from Bob Nusbaum on to the full county board. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to adjourn. Motion carried. The next meeting will be December 16, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. before the County Board Meeting. Meetings will be held at Fair Convention with the next monthly meeting scheduled for January 19, 2015.
