HomeMy WebLinkAboutAg & Ext Minutes May 19 2014AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, May 19, 2014 9:00 a.m. The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to Patcle were Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, Roger Guthrie, Mark Stead, Dan Timmerman, Bev Doll, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Sarah Hopkins, Jaime Noble, Ione Meoska, Jeremy Reuter and Alan Clark. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center and media by Jenny Dixon. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to approve the minutes of the meeting held April 21, 2014. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report. Discussion was held on the three proposals received from IIW on handicap accessible restrooms in the Youth and Agriculture Center. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to approve Youth & Ag Center vouchers. Motion carried. The door in the announcer’s stand in the pit area was replaced. Jaime Noble was present to discuss rates for District 3 Holstein Shows to be held at the fairgrounds. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to charge the District 3 Holstein Show $750 plus utilities and expenses when a county other than Grant hosts the event. When Grant County hosts the event they will be responsible for the cost of utilities and expenses. Motion carried. Bev Doll presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. WACEC registration was discussed and forms distributed. The UW-Extension office will hold orientation for new committee members on June 16 immediately following the Ag & Extension Education/Fair Committee Meeting. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to approve Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Ione Meoska presented an annual letter of agreement to the committee asking for their support. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Grant Loy to support the WNEP program. Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Bagley 4th of July event, Thunder in the Valley, would like to use bleachers for their event. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Mark Stead, to allow Bagley to use bleachers for their 4th of July Celebration in exchange for advertising. Motion carried. Posters advertising the 2014 Grant County Fair were received from Lancaster Schools art students. The top three will be selected following the committee meeting. Summer Festival was discussed. Amy will get classes for stock car races from Darren. Jane will order food but will not be here for the event. Amy continues to work on sponsorship and promotion of the 2014 fair. Posters and brochures will be done for the Dairy Breakfast. Bob Middendorf will do the Farm Show live Friday night from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the Wisconsin Bank and Trust Entertainment Tent. A contract was signed with B & D enterprises for the sled for the local pull Saturday night. The cost is $1600. Newline Real Estate Country Showdown will be held in the Wisconsin Bank and Trust Entertainment Tent on Sunday starting at 2:00 p.m. Fairest of the Fair Banquet will be held May 29 with social time at 6:00 p.m. and the program beginning at 6:30 p.m. There are two fairest and four junior contestants. Sarah Hopkins shared that a 4-H member would like to swap projects. They mistakenly chose the scale model project instead of diorama. The deadline for sign up in order to enter projects in the fair was April 1. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to allow 4-H member to swap project areas. Motion carried. John Vesperman would like to clip the grounds area again this year. Amy will let John know that he can do so this year, but next year others may have the ability to request to do so also. Amy checked into online payments for purchasing all-event tickets. She will present more information at the next meeting. Road Crew will not be available to work the grandstand beer stand Saturday night of the 2014 fair. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Mark Stead, to approve Fair and Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Jeremy Reuter was present to discuss the local truck and tractor pull at the Grant County Fair. He will send class information to Amy. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Mark Stead, to go with Jeremy Reuter’s recommendations to take gas trucks out and put diesel in. Motion carried. Alan Clark, Executive Director of Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium (WLIC), was present to discuss swine RFID (radio frequency identification). Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Mark Stead, to pass the livestock claim from Lancaster Veterinary Clinic in the amount of $1,033.20 to be paid in full on to the full county board. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Grant Loy, to adjourn until June 16, 2014. Motion carried.
