EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING

January 6,7,8, 2014

Monday, January 6th
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, John Patcle, in addition to Chairperson Patcle
were Pat Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Grant Loy, and Amy Olson.
The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag
Center, and media by Amy Olson
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
The Board met and discussed Friday night entertainment and what we need to look for at the
showcases tonight and tomorrow night along with convention trade show attendees.
We will also meet with Calkins Midway Inc. and Tower Sound tomorrow.
Discussion on continuing the Fairest of the Fair and Junior Fairest of the Fair program. Motion by
Roger, seconded by Grant to continue the Fairest of the Fair program and Junior Fairest of the Fair
program with the understanding that if we cannot get a Fairest of the Fair there will be no Junior
Fairest of the Fair. Motion carried.
Discussed the Scott Implement Kids Tent and what to put inside for entertainment for the kids.
We will look at the trade show vendors to see what is available.
Kindishi Pedal Pull races. A board member will stop and talk to them to see if they would like to
come back this year to the fair.
Discussed some of our contest we have for the fair. Motion by Grant, seconded by Roger to have
the Promote the Fair Contest sponsored by Steve & LuAnn Adrian. Motion carried. Motion by
Pat, seconded by Grant to have the Poster Contest with the schools and 4-H groups again
sponsored by Pat & Karen Schroeder. Motion carried. Motion by Roger, seconded by Pat to have
the Can Food Drive Contest again. Motion carried.
Summer Festival was discussed.
Discussion on joining other chambers outside of Lancaster to help promote the Fair and
Fairgrounds. Motion by Pat, seconded by Roger to have Amy look into the cost of joining other
Chambers and find out what we would get in return for joining.

Tuesday, January 7th
Those present were John Patcle, Pat Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Grant Loy and Amy Olson.
Committee attended the different workshops in the morning.
We met with Calkins Midway Inc. He is increasing this year’s Mega Passes to $40 advance and
$55.00 at fair time which comes to $1 an hour for riding all weekend while he is open. The prices
will stay the same for daily wristbands to ride which is $20 a day and he will have Buck night on
Wednesday again. Motion by Grant, seconded by Pat to honor the increase of the Mega Passes
from $35 to $40 for advance tickets and $50 to $55 at fair time with the wristbands staying at $20
a day. Motion carried.
Discussed entertainment in the Scott Implement Kids Tent. Need to look for an organization to
help run the tent this year. Talked to a couple of vendors that does kid shows. Amy will contact
them next week to get more information on their shows. Also discussed doing a cake decorating
contest one day for the kids. Amy will contact the Blue Boy Bakery to see if they would be
interested in sponsoring this contest.
Discussed having a college day for students. Students present their name badges from their
college they attend and get in at a reduced cost for the day.

Wednesday, January 8th
Those present were John Patcle, Pat Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Grant Loy and Amy Olson.
Committee attended the different workshops this morning and yesterday afternoon. Discussion
was held on some of these workshops.
Discussed having an appreciation night with a hog roast for County Board Supervisors and
Platinum & Gold Sponsors. We would also recognize the Platinum and Gold Sponsors on
Thursday night during opening ceremonies. I attended the Secretary/Treasurer Workshop. Met
the new Office Operations Associate, Stacie Ashby. She will be the new contact person at the
Division of Ag Development along with Bob Williams.
Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Roger Guthrie to adjourn until Monday, January 20th. Motion
carried.
