HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes February 17 2014AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, February 17, 2014 9:00 a.m. UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairman Bob Keeney. Present, in addition to Vice Chairman Keeney was Vince Loeffelholz, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, Roger Guthrie, Larry Wolf, Bev Doll, Amy Olson, Dave Wachter and Sarah Hopkins. John Patcle was excused. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center and media by Jenny Dixon. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to approve the minutes of the Ag & Extension Education Committee Meeting held January 20, 2014 with correction. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report. The campers stored will be out of the livestock facility on March 1 and can be stored behind the barn. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to approve Youth & Ag Center vouchers. Motion carried. Bev Doll presented Grant County Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Agent performance reviews will be held March 24. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Grant Loy to approve Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Amy contacted St Clements and Westview Methodist Church letting them know they can work the grandstand food stand. A grant in the amount of $1,500 that Amy applied for was awarded to the fair by the Economic, Tourism and Resource committee for Summer Festival. Fair entertainment was discussed. Roger Guthrie spoke with Paul Esser about bring sheep to the fair for the Muttin Bustin. The order of events for Thursday night will start with Catch a Calf, then Muttin Bustin followed by Bed Racing. Roger Guthrie and Pat Schroeder will donate bedding for the Muttin Bustin and Catch a Calf. Larry Wolf left the meeting at 9:30 a.m. A contract was signed with Nick D Entertainment for Nick’s Kid Show in the Scott Implement kids’ tent. Sunday entertainment in the kids’ tent was discussed. Steve Adrian will donate Girl Scout cookies and there will be free face painting. Majestic View Dairy will man the Alternative Recycling ag tent again for the 2014 Fair. A hand washing station will be in the tent. Friday night entertainment in the grandstand will only be Tri-State Truck & Tractor Pull. The committee discussed sponsoring entertainment in the Wisconsin Bank & Trust entertainment tent with WGLR. The fair will provide the site and sound if WGLR wants to provide the entertainment. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to accept Tower Sound contract to supply equipment for the Wisconsin Bank & Trust tent stage for Saturday night. Motion carried. Vince Loeffelholz requested a scale model tractor for a donation for Land Conservation. Discussion was held on upgrading restrooms at the Youth & Ag Center. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy to hire IIW to have an initial study done on handicap accessible restrooms for the Youth and Ag Center. Motion carried. Dave Wachter and Sarah Hopkins were present to discuss the swine PED virus. The state mandated there will be no swine weigh-ins due to the virus being extremely contagious. Grandstand admission was discussed. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to leave the grandstand admission and all- event ticket prices the same for the 2014 Fair. Motion carried. Vendor space was discussed. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Grant Loy to leave charges for vendor space for the 2014 Fair same as in the past. Motion carried. Bucket of Blooms will be at the 2014 Fair. Applications went out for Fairest of the Fair and Junior Fairest of the Fair. Application deadline is April 11 and the banquet on April 29. Area chamber memberships was discussed. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to have Grant County Fair join any Grant County Chamber of Commerces. Motion carried. Discussion was held on BouMatic donation of equipment from Dairy Expo. Stewart Swenson, Argo Dairy, will be getting back to Amy regarding cost. The equipment will be donated with any other additional parts needed at cost plus 10%. Argo Dairy will not donate labor. Stewart suggested taking all equipment available and storing what is not used. Motion by Vince Loeffelholz, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve sending the livestock claim from Lancaster Veterinary Clinic in the amount of $105.00 to be paid in full on to the full county board. Motion carried. Public comment. Grant Loy was concerned how County Board members keep informed of Courthouse renovation information. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Vince Loeffelholz, to adjourn until March 17, 2014. Motion carried.
