EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, November 3, 2014
9:00 a.m.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to Patcle were Grant
Loy, Pat Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Mark Stead, Dan Timmerman, Bob Keeney, Bev Doll, Ted Bay,
Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Matt Hanson, Dave Timmerman, Jason Udelhofen, Kari Ruf, Matt
Crist, Keith Simmons, Tim Baye, Joe Krantz, Todd Johnson, Ron Brisbois and Joe Ploessl.
The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag
Center and media by Jenny Dixon.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the minutes of the meeting held
October 6, 2014, and correct the minutes of September 2 to include approving minutes from the
July 31 meeting. Motion carried.
Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report.
Amy is expecting bids on the manhole on November 3.
The committee agreed to Amy’s request that vehicles, etc. of parties renting space for winter storage
in the Livestock Facility be pulled out for the two sales in the beginning of March and then returned
until April.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to have Amy inform IIW PC the bid process
for the handicap restroom in the Youth & Ag Center can be started. Motion carried.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve Youth & Ag Center vouchers. Motion
carried.
Bev Doll presented Grant County UW-Extension and Youth & Ag Center business.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to approve UW-Extension vouchers.
Motion carried.
Todd Johnson is resigning from the Community Resource Development Agent (CNRED) position
effective December 31, 2014. Ron Brisbois, Grant County Economic Development Director; Joe
Ploessl, from the community of Cassville, and Tim Baye, state energy specialist with UW-Extension
were present to speak on behalf of continuing the position.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to accept the resignation of Todd Johnson.
Motion carried.
The committee would like more information before deciding whether to refill the CNRED position.
It will be further discussed at the December meeting.
Bev presented UW-Extension agent contracts.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to approve Extension Agent contracts, 133-
PRJ56LX. Four yes votes. Two no votes. Motion carried.
Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business.
Amy would like to purchase a snow plow for the fairgrounds truck.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to pay for the snow plow from Summer Festival
funds and direct Amy to get the lowest bid and make the purchase. Motion carried.
Amy handed out sponsorship brochures. She is including a contract this year in order to get all
information needed from the sponsors. She moved the deadline to April 1 (from May 1 in 2014).
The Silver and Gold packages will get rotating radio ads while the Platinum package will be
recognized on all radio ads.
Discussion of racing at the Grant County Fairgrounds and the 2015 Grant County Fair was held.
Jason Udelhofen, Kari Ruf and Matt Crist from Lafayette County Speedway in Darlington were
present and Keith Simmons, from Simmons Promotions, was present.
Joe Krantz was present to discuss the cost of Hard Hit Promotions events in the grandstand at the
2015 fair. The proposal will be reviewed and further discussed at the December meeting.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Grant Loy, to sign contracts with Lancaster Jaycees and
Lancaster Sluggers. Motion carried.
Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve Fair and Fairgrounds vouchers.
Motion carried.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to approve sending the livestock claim from
Lancaster Veterinary Clinic in the amount of $690.00 to be paid in full on to the full county board.
Motion carried.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to adjourn until December 1, 2014. Motion
carried.
