HomeMy WebLinkAboutmeeting during fair - sat 2014AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING UWEX Conference Room Lancaster, WI Saturday August 16, 2014 10:00 a.m. The meeting was called to order by the Committee Chairman John Patcle. Present in addition to Patcle was Bob Keeney, Mark Stead, Pat Schroeder, Grant Loy, Roger Guthrie, Dan Timmerman, Amy Olson, Ted Bay, Steve Braun, Jack Johnson, Deb Reukauf, Jackie Edge, Chuck and Lynn Waterman, and Bev Lane. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office and Youth & Ag Center and media by Amy Olson. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Mark Stead, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Chuck reported that the carnival was up on Friday. Deb Reukauf explained that someone lost a cell phone by the zipper ride. It was investigated and a carnival worker from Calkins was involved and cited for theft. Jack Johnson reported no problems other than the parking down by the barn area. Judging was discussed. Had a few complaints that some departments are taking a long time this year to judge. We did have an increase in numbers this year but in some departments the judges seem to be very slow. There also was some complaints about Herdmanship judging and how we were going to go about judging that this year. The board will support Sarah Hopkins decision on how to handle this. Bev Lane was present. She has some concerns about the tie out for the beef. Last night 4 steers were loose trying to tie out. We need to look at doing the tie out in shifts, making an alley or completely eliminating the tie outs all together. Tri-State Truck and Tractor Pull was discussed. The sled broke down 4 times on Friday nights pull. It was announced that we would do another pull on September 14, 2014 at the fairgrounds. Discussion on how to proceed with this pull. Steve Braun expressed concerns on how we set up the bleachers for the Night of Destruction. We need to pull the bleachers that are on the track back about 20 more feet. Outstanding Fair Person Awards will be today at 12:45pm. Bob Keeney is going to present Steve Adrian with his plaque, if he is there. Roger Guthrie is going to present Mike Hahn and Donna Cyborski with their plaques. Discussion was held on a new sign for the fairgrounds. The board was approached by Dennis Noble expressing interest in starting a fundraiser for a digital sign for the fairgrounds. Motioned by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Grant Loy to start a fundraising campaign for a new digital sign on the fairgrounds. Motion carried. Recess until 10:00 a.m. Sunday, August 17.
