HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Ag & Ext. April 20 2015AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, April 20, 2015 9:00 a.m. The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to Patcle were Grant Loy, Pat Schroeder, Roger Guthrie Mark Stead, Bob Keeney, Bev Doll, Ted Bay, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Sarah Hopkins, Ione Meoska, Cindy Busch, Matt Hanson, Denny Noble, Rick Kruser and Sara Burks. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center and media by Jenny Dixon. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve the minutes of meetings held March 16 and 23, 2015. Motion carried. Bev Doll presented Grant County UW-Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Matt Hanson was present for agent reviews of Ted Bay, Crops & Farm Management Agent; Bev Doll, Family Living Agent; Ione Meoska, Nutrition Education Program Coordinator and Cindy Busch Nutrition Coordinator. Recess to lunch at 12:00 p.m. Reconvene at 1:00 p.m. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve UW-Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report. The ADA restroom is complete with the final project cost $9,350.75 under budget. The original Public Property request was $46,958.00 with the project cost to Otter Creek Construction totaling $37,607.25. The door on the janitor room was replaced for public access. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve grounds and maintenance vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Rick Kruser, Potosi Brewery marketing representative, gave a presentation on the brewery and their products. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to offer Potosi Light and Steamboat Shandy beer at the 2015 Grant County Fair. Motion carried. Sara Burks, West Grant Saddle Club, was present to discuss holding their tack sale and hosting a Little Britches Rodeo. Discussion was also held on future fencing and water access. Amy is getting cost information on replacing steel doors on the Livestock Facility. Amy will get prices for new tables for the fairgrounds. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to approve Fair and Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to go into closed session per state statute 19.85 (1) (c) considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility as it relates to compensation. Roll call vote unanimous. Motion carried. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to return to open session. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Mark Stead to reclassify the Fair Manager to B3. Motion carried. Amy, Grant, Dan and Mark attended the spring District Meeting. Amy shared a draft application for parking/camping during the fair. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to accept the RV parking application. Motion carried. A contract was signed with Steve “Max” Kowalske for Friday Night for four hours costing $250. Discussion was held on the Dairy Committee’s request to have a fitting contest with the winner of the contest being able to sell cheese at the Junior Fair Livestock Auction. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to allow the youth fitting contest at the 2015 fair. Motion carried. Amy will make changes in the fair book. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Grant Loy, to lower the Crops Building rental rate to $150 per day. Motion carried. The Grant Antique Tractor Club asked for permission to leave their trailers on the grounds during rides in May, June and September. It was suggested they park on the infield at the grandstand. Amy will get dates before granting permission. Amy will make contact to have purchased memorial pavers laid by the Eckstein Exhibit Hall. The Fairest of the Fair and Junior Fairest of the Fair contest will be held April 28. Mowing of the east parking lot at the fairgrounds was discussed. It was recommended to alternate years between the two interested parties. The Good Samaritan Society of Fennimore has requested the Youth & Agriculture Center be a temporary housing location in case of an emergency if the Fennimore High School or Southwest Wisconsin Technical College is unavailable. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to adjourn. Motion carried. The next meeting will be held May 1, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. with the next monthly meeting scheduled for May 18, 2015.
