HomeMy WebLinkAboutAg & Ext 2 May 16 2016AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, May 16, 2016 9:00 a.m. The meeting was called to order by County Board Chairman Bob Keeney. Present, in addition to Keeney were John Patcle, Grant Loy, Roger Guthrie, Dan Timmerman, Mike Lieurance, Bev Doll, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Matt Hanson, Ted Bay, Kory Stalsberg, Charisse Orth, Donna Peterson and Becky DeBuhr. Mark Stead was excused from the meeting. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center county website and media by Jenny Dixon. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Reorganization of the committee with election of officers was held. John Patcle nominated Roger Guthrie for chairman. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by John Patcle to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Roger Guthrie as chairman of the committee. Motion carried. Dan Timmerman nominated Mark Stead for vice chair and Mike Lieurance nominated John Patcle. Nominations were closed with John Patcle receiving four votes and Mark Stead receiving one vote. John Patcle is vice chair of the committee. Dan Timmerman nominated Mark Stead for secretary. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Dan Timmerman to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Mark Stead as secretary of the committee. Motion carried. Chairman Roger Guthrie presided over the rest of the meeting. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by John Patcle, to approve the minutes of the meeting held April 18, 2016. Motion carried. Bev Doll presented Grant County UW-Extension and Youth & Ag Center business. Ted Bay, Kory Stalsberg, Charisse Orth, Donna Peterson and Bev Doll gave agent reports. Matt Hanson, Southern Regional Director, was at the meeting. He spoke on the nEXT Generation, WNEP Coordinator coverage of Grant and Iowa Counties and the Community Resource Development Agent position. The committee would like to see the CRD position filled at a minimum of 40% time for now. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the minutes of the Economic, Tourism & Resource Committee meeting held March 23, 2016. Motion carried. There is no longer an Economic, Tourism & Resource Committee; therefore, the duties of that committee will be added to the Agriculture & Extension Education/Fair Committee. Addition: This committee shall have charge of county publicity, development of recreation, and the attraction of industry to the County. It shall be responsible for the fish and game propagation program. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to approve UW-Extension vouchers. Motion carried. The tourism grant process was discussed. Revisions need to be made on the forms. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by John Patcle, to have Lori work with Bob Keeney to revise the forms and put on the county website. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Ag Center report. Amy received bids from Fahrner and Scott Construction to do seal coating on the fairgrounds. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Grant Loy, to go with Scott Construction for seal coating on the fairgrounds. Motion carried. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to approve grounds and maintenance vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Charisse Orth, Interim 4-H Youth Development Educator, discussed identification deadlines related to the Grant County Fair and Junior Livestock Auction entries, with the committee. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Grant Loy, to support the 4-H Youth Development Educator’s decision on meeting deadlines. Motion carried. Events for the 2016 Fair were discussed. Races will be held on June 25 by Lafayette County Speedway at the Grant County Fairgrounds. A contract was signed with St. Clement School for the food stand and with Adam Bartels. Yard signs, posters and brochures promoting the 2016 Fair are printed. Flyers will be in papers the end of May. Coasters will also be printed. All Event Ticket sales will start June 1. Art students’ posters promoting the fair will be judged after meeting. Rental lease policies for buildings were discussed. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by John Patcle, to update leases stating that fees will be charged accordingly for use of facilities during times other than stated on the lease, and also state that lessee is responsible for set up and clean up. Motion carried. Becky DeBuhr was present to inquire about using the Eckstein Exhibit Hall for the Alzheimer’s Walk. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Grant Loy, to waive the fee for use of the Eckstein Exhibit Hall for the Alzheimer’s Walk on September 24, 2016. Motion carried. Wristbands will be used for grandstand events. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to approve Fair and Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Mike Lieurance to pay the livestock claim in the amount of $330.94 including $18.51 finance charge, and send on to the full county board. One no vote. Motion carried. The state WACEC Conference is in Wausau June 20 & 21. The next Agriculture Extension Education Committee/Fair Board meeting will be held June 27, 2016.
