EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, May 18, 2015
9:00 a.m.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Patcle. Present, in addition to Patcle were Grant Loy,
Pat Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Mark Stead, Dan Timmerman, Bob Keeney, Ted Bay, Amy Olson, Lori
Vesperman, Ione Meoska, Bob Middendorf, Jim Ley, Lyle Baker and Becky DeBuhr. Ted Bay left the
meeting at 9:30 a.m.
The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center
and media by Jenny Dixon.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Mark Stead, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve the minutes of meetings held April
20 and May 1, 2015 with correction on April 20. Motion carried.
Ted Bay presented Grant County UW-Extension and Youth & Ag Center business.
Ted gave his agent report.
Ted informed the committee that Kory Stalsberg, the new Dairy & Livestock Agent, will be starting June
1 and Shannon Brown, the new Community Resource Development Agent will be starting July 1.
Ione Meoska presented an annual letter of agreement to the committee asking for their support.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Grant Loy to support the WNEP program proposal. One no vote.
Motion carried.
Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve UW-Extension vouchers. Motion carried.
Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance report.
Doors on the livestock facility need to be replaced. Amy got two estimates to replace three doors. Otter
Creek Construction’s estimate totaled $4,870 and Eastman Cartwright’s totaled $5,805. The livestock
trust will pay $4,000 of the cost.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Roger Guthrie to have Otter Creek Construction install the doors.
Motion carried.
Amy priced 20 tables for the buildings and will order them from Hermsen’s. They would be paid for
from the Youth & Ag Center supply account and the Fair other supply account.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Dan Timmerman to approve the purchase of 20 tables for buildings
on the fairgrounds. Motion carried.
The digital sign has been installed. A total of six parties made donations to pay for the sign. The electrical
wiring needs to be completed.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve grounds and maintenance vouchers.
Motion carried.
Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business.
Jim Ley and Lyle Baker from the Grant Antique Collectors’ Club were present to express their
appreciation of space at the fair and to present a $200 donation. The Fair Board also expressed their
appreciation to the Club for participating at Fair.
Bob Middendorf stated that WGLR will broadcast the Junior Fair Livestock Auction live if there are no
conflicts. If there is a conflict they will play the auction Sunday morning. Bob said there has been
favorable feedback in the past on Sunday morning playback.
Becky DeBuhr was present to request using the Eckstein Exhibit Hall for the Alzheimers Walk on
October 3 at no cost.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to waive the fee for use of the Eckstein Exhibi t Hall
for the Alzheimers Walk being held October 3, 2015. Motion carried.
The IT Department is working on getting the fair book online.
The flyers advertising the All-Event Pass will be in the papers June 1.
Amy has the Mega Passes for carnival rides available. The cost for unlimited rides during the fair is $40
until the day the rides start; the cost is then $55.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve Fair and Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion
carried.
The Read & Win program has nine libraries participating this year. A participant that reads 40 hours
between June 1 and July 31 will receive a free soda and nachos from the Grandstand Foodstand.
The WISWIT campers using the grounds in July are concerned about electricity offered on the grounds.
Amy will get recommendations from Reynolds electric.
Mark Stead commented on updates for the UW-Extension letterhead. Dan Timmerman voiced his
concern of WNEP program educational efforts being duplicated through other venues.
Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Mark Stead, to adjourn. Motion carried.
The next meeting will be held June 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.
