EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, October 17, 2016
9:00 a.m.
The meeting was called to order by Committee Chairman Roger Guthrie. Present, in addition to Guthrie were
John Patcle, Mark Stead, Grant Loy, Dan Timmerman, Mike Lieurance, Bob Keeney, Bev Doll, Ted Bay,
Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Kory Stalsberg, Donna Peterson, Matthew Kreul, Joel Ames, John Ames,
Regina Knapp-Malatji, Ian Malatji and Amber Canto.
The meeting notice was posted at the UW-Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center and mailed to media
and Administration Building by Jenny Dixon and posted on the website by the Grant County Clerkâs Office.
Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to approve minutes of the meeting held September19,
2016. Motion carried.
Bev Doll presented Grant County UW-Extension and Youth & Agriculture Center business.
Ted Bay, Bev Doll, Kory Stalsberg and Donna Peterson gave agent reports. Amber Canto, Food WIse
(formerly Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program) State Program Coordinator was present to share
information and data on the Food WIse program. Donna Peterson told the committee interviews for a
Nutrition Educator was held on Monday, October 10. A candidate has been offered the position but a starting
date has not been set at this time.
Matthew Kreul from Lancaster FFA Alumni requested the use of 40-50 tables for the annual breakfast/toy
show held at Lancaster High School on December 4, 2016.
Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Mark Stead, to allow Lancaster FFA Alumni the use of tables for a
donation. Motion carried.
Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Mike Lieurance to sign the UW-Extension Agent contracts, 133-
PRJ89UB for July 1, 2016-June 30, 2017. Motion carried.
Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by John Patcle to approve UW-Extension vouchers. Motion carried.
Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report.
North Lancaster clerk reported to Amy the state inspector who inspects the Youth & Ag Center commented
that the cracks in the sidewalk in front of the building need to be fixed.
Amy will be looking into skid steer tires before winter.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to approve grounds and maintenance vouchers.
Motion carried.
Kory Stalsberg shared some ideas for improving the swine barn. He will look at ideas with Dave Kammel,
Farmstead Engineering Specialist from UW-Madison.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by John Patcle, to sign a contract with Town & Country Sanitation for the
grounds at $6/yard, no change in cost from the previous contract. Motion carried.
Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business.
Joel Ames from Classy Chassis presented a proposal for the club coming to the 2017 Grant County Fair - all
cars entering the fair to be on display and occupants of the cars get in at no cost. Also, all club members get in
free.
Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to allow two members from all show cars in free at the
2017 Grant County fair, along with working members. All will sign in at the gate. Motion carried.
Fair book suggestions from superintendents were reviewed.
Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Grant Loy, to make fair book changes suggested by
superintendents. Motion carried.
Amy made contact with the Cindy Larkee regarding the carnival contract for the 2017 Fair but has not heard
anything back.
Joe Krantz likes the idea of moving the Demo Derby and Night of Destruction to Saturday of the fair. They
would have things cleaned up by Sunday morning.
Amy will talk to Cory Check to see if he would be interested in holding the rodeo on Thursday night of the
fair.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to go with all three proposals from Tower Sound for
audio upgrades in the Eckstein Hall, Open Arena and Livestock Facility and pay for it from the Livestock
Facility account and the Fairgrounds account. Motion carried.
Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to sign the contract with Town & Country Sanitation for
the Youth & Ag Center at no change in cost from the previous contract. Motion carried.
Ted shared an updated Memorandum of Understanding for the agriculture agents sharing time with Lafayette
County for the committee to review.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by John Patcle, to adjourn. Motion carried.
The committee will meet at 1:00 p.m. with the Lafayette County Agriculture & Extension Education
Committee at the UW-Platteville Pioneer Prairie Farm. The next scheduled meeting is November 14, 2016, at
1:00 p.m.
