EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
UWEX Conference Room
Lancaster, WI
Saturday
August 19, 2017
10:00 a.m.
The meeting was called to order by the Committee Chairman Roger Guthrie. Present in addition to
Guthrie was Bob Keeney, Mark Stead, Mike Lieurance, John Patcle, Grant Loy, Dan Timmerman, Amy
Olson, Steve Braun, Jack Johnson, Deb Reukauf, and Barb Larke.
The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office and Youth & Ag Center
and media by Amy Olson.
Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by John Patcle, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Barb reported that the carnival was up on Friday and turned their financial statement to Amy Olson.
Jack Johnson and Deb Reukauf reported that everything was running smooth.
Steve Braun passed out the weather report and also reported that everything was going well.
Judging in the dairy and rabbit department was discussed. The judge’s sheets came back this year with no
4th place rankings in dairy and only one 4th place ranking in rabbits. They did not use the Danish system
to judge. Amy Olson explained that if the Danish system is not followed it could hurt us for state aid on
premiums. Bob Keeney will talk to the head superintendents on this matter and it will be brought up next
year at our annual superintendents meeting.
Exhibits/Exhibitors – nothing to report at this time.
Grandstand events were discussed. Amy Olson had a call from an individual that would like to bring her
brother to the tractor pull and get in the pits. Amy explained the policy that a parent has to sign the
waiver. She asked if she could pick the waiver up and have the mother sign it and return it. Amy brought
this up to the fair board and after further discussion the board agreed that we couldn’t allow this. Motion
by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Grant Loy that siblings cannot bring in younger siblings by signature.
The parent has to accompany the minor into the pits. Motion carried
Recess until 10:00 a.m. Sunday, August 20.
Respectfully submitted,
