HomeMy WebLinkAboutAg & Ext Minutes March 27 2017AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, March 27, 2017 9:00 a.m. The meeting was called to order by Committee Chairman Roger Guthrie. Present, in addition to Guthrie were John Patcle, Grant Loy, Dan Timmerman, Mike Lieurance, Bob Keeney, Amy Olson, Bev Doll, Lori Vesperman, Kory Stalsberg, Donna Peterson, Herb Cody and Joyce Roling. Mark Stead was excused. The meeting notice was posted at the UW-Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center and mailed to media and Administration Building by Lori Vesperman and posted on the website by the Grant County Clerk’s Office. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to approve minutes of the meeting held February 27 and March 21, 2017. Motion carried. Grant County UW-Extension and Youth & Agriculture Center business was presented. Agent reports were given by Bev Doll, Kory Stalsberg and Donna Peterson. Reports by Ted Bay and James Schneider were handed out. Bev Doll shared information on nEXT Generation. Farm Progress Scholarship applications were discussed. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Mike Lieurance to award the Farm Progress Days scholarship to Allison Siegert. Motion carried. Bev Doll shared info on the SWIFLE program being held April 19. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to approve UW-Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report. New light fixtures were put in the Livestock Facility and bathrooms painted. Amy will make contacts for suggestions and costs regarding drainage and replacing cement in front of the Youth & Agriculture Center. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to approve grounds and maintenance vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Wristbands will be used for entrance to the Grandstands. Discussion was held on fair events in the Grandstand. Discussion was held on food stand and beer stand organizations. Amy is finding it difficult to find organizations to clean the Grandstand after each event. Amy was contacted by Deb Reukauf, Lancaster City Police Department, regarding vendor space at the fair for fundraising activities. Herb Cody was present to discuss Tri-State’s Got Talent show at the 2017 Grant County Fair. Amy sent sponsorship and promotion information out. She will start to make face-to-face contacts after the April 1. The District 3 Meeting will be held April 4 in Dodgeville. Amy received proposals from two engineering firms for the swine barn. She will make contact with UW-Platteville engineering department to discuss the possibility of students working on the swine barn project. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Grant Loy to sign a contract with Handy Cash ATM for the 2017 Fair. Motion carried. Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve Fair and Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Amy would like to check out the possibility of having a mud drag. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by John Patcle to go into closed session per state statute 19.85 (1) (c) considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility as it relates to the performance evaluation of the Grant County Fairgrounds & Operations Manager. Roll call vote unanimous. Motion carried. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by John Patcle, to return to open session. Motion carried. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to adjourn.
