HomeMy WebLinkAbout12 Minutes December 17 2018AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, December 17, 2018 10:00 a.m. The meeting was called to order by Committee Chairman Roger Guthrie. Present, in addition to Guthrie were, John Patcle, Mark Stead, Mike Lieurance, Bob Keeney, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Dan & Paula Barbacovi. Gary Northouse was excused. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office and Youth & Agriculture Center and media by Amy Olson. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by John Patcle, to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to approve fairground vouchers. Motion carried. John Patcle spoke with the town of Potosi chairman regarding the livestock claim presented at the December 3 meeting and found the lambs died from injuries received by dogs. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Mark Stead to send the livestock claim from Daniel G. Schaefer in the amount of $1,000 onto the full county board, recommending payment in full since it is close to the end of the year. Motion carried. Discussion was held on purchasing tables for the Youth & Ag Center from remaining funds in the 2018 budget. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to purchase tables for the Youth & Ag Center from the 2018 budget. Motion carried. Discussion was held on additional rules for the Grant County Junior Fair Livestock Auction. A statement will be added to the fair entry form and fair book stating Grant County will not be liable if an animal dies on the grounds, in transit, or at a processing plant. If more than three pig entries (the allowed number) are brought onto the Fairgrounds for the fair, the pigs will need to stay on the grounds the entire fair and to go market. The proceeds from sale at market will go to the Grant County Fair. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by John Patcle to have information regarding the above two additional auction rules drafted and presented to Ben Wood for approved wording. Motion carried. All exhibitors of swine and any exhibitors selling livestock at the Grant County Junior Fair Livestock Auction will be required to complete the YQCA (Youth for the Quality Care of Animals) educational course. The cost is $3 for attending in person and $12 for completing online. Exhibitors are responsible for the cost. Coupons are available for purchase for those who do not want to use a credit card for the online course. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to have all swine exhibitors and livestock auction sellers be YQCA certified. Motion carried. Discussion was held on allowing an exhibitor to have someone else present their animal for sale at the Grant County Junior Fair Livestock Auction, if the exhibitor is not able to attend the auction. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by John Patcle, to grant an exhibitor one substitution for selling through the Grant County Junior Fair Livestock Auction per their career at the Grant County Fair, regardless of any reason. Motion carried. Discussion was held on the 2018 carnival and planning for future carnivals. More discussion will be held at the Fair Convention in January of 2019. Amy presented suggested fair book changes. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to accept fairbook changes for 2019. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by John Patcle, to adjourn. Motion carried. The next regular scheduled meeting will be Monday, January 28, at 9:00 a.m. and to the call of the Chair on January 7, 2019.
