HomeMy WebLinkAboutAg Ext 01 Minutes January 22 2018AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, January 22, 2018 9:00 a.m. The meeting was called to order by Committee Chairman Roger Guthrie. Present, in addition to Guthrie were John Patcle, Grant Loy, Bob Keeney, Amy Olson, Paul Ohlrogge, Lori Vesperman, James Schneider, Donna Peterson, Charisse Orth and Bev Doll. Mark Stead, Dan Timmerman and Mike Lieurance were excused from the meeting. The meeting notice was posted at the UW-Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center and mailed to media and Administration Building by Lori Vesperman and posted on the website by the Grant County Clerk’s Office. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by John Patcle, to approve minutes of the meetings held December 18, 2017 and January 8, 9 & 10, 2018. Motion carried. Grant County UW-Extension and Youth & Agriculture Center business was presented. Agent reports were given by Bev Doll, Charisse Orth, Donna Peterson and James Schneider. Paul Ohlrogge gave the Area Extension Director Update. He shared that the Grant County Agriculture Education position was approved for posting. He also presented the flat-fee contracts. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by John Patcle, to sign the flat fee contract for UW-Extension Educator positions in Grant County. Motion carried. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Grant Loy to accept a contract with Gordon Flesch for the copy machine in the UW-Extension Office. Motion carried. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by John Patcle, to approve UW-Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report. Amy updated the committee on the LTE job description for assistance in the UW-Extension office. There have been issues with the sound system in the Youth & Agriculture Center. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Grant Loy, to purchase a new sound system for the Auditorium in Youth & Agriculture Center at a proposed cost of $1,779. Motion carried. Lancaster Youth Wrestling requested to hang a weight bar in the Auditorium. It will also be utilized by the Fair and UW-Extension Office to hang items on. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by John Patcle to purchase a used Hillyard carpet shampooer for $400.00. Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Grandstand events were discussed. Amy reported the work on internet service is complete and it has been working fine. A phone call was held with Wyatt from ECI to clarify items on the tractor pull contract for Friday, August 17, 2018. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Grant Loy, to sign the contract with ECI Pullers for Friday, August 17 for the 2018 Fair. One no vote. Motion carried. Discussion was held on holding a summer tractor pull with Tri-State Truck & Tractor Pullers. Amy will check into rain insurance for the event. Motion by Grant Loy, seconded by John Patcle, to go with June 8 for a fundraising tractor pull to raise funds for the new Swine Barn, using Tri-State Truck & Tractor Pullers. Motion carried. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Grant Loy, to sign to sign the contract with Kindschi for the Pedal Tractor Pull ($664). Motion carried. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve vouchers. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve the livestock claim in the amount of $135 to the Grant County Humane Society and send on to the full county board for approval. One no vote. Motion carried. Amy informed the committee the District Fair Meeting will be held April 4 in Vernon County. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Grant Loy, to adjourn. Motion carried.
