EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Thursday, February 8, 2018
1:00 p.m.
The meeting was called to order by Committee Chairman Roger Guthrie. Present, in addition to
Guthrie were John Patcle, Mark Stead, Grant Loy, Dan Timmerman, Bob Keeney, Amy Olson, Lori
Vesperman, Keith Dalsing, Brenda Schneider and Brian Heinrichs. Mike Lieurance was excused from
the meeting.
The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, UW-Extension Office, Youth & Ag
Center and media by Amy Olson.
Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by John Patcle, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Keith Dalsing, KD Engineer Consultants, shared plans with revisions for the swine barn. Discussion
followed on building options and the bidding process with timeline.
Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Grant Loy, to approve plans for a new Swine Barn with one
16’ door, 2 - 12’ doors, with electrical and lighting alternate, and dowel pins. It also includes an
alternate for 29G steel. Motion carried.
Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Dan Timmerman, to authorize bidding for the new Swine
Building. Motion carried.
If anyone is interested in the old pens in the Swine Barn they can contact Amy, or if they are
interested in dismantling the building they should attend the February 19 committee meeting.
Electricity to the building should be shut off as soon as possible.
Dan Timmerman suggested checking into rebates for LED lighting for the new building.
Fundraising events are being planned with proceeds going toward the new swine building. A Pork
Supper will be held on Monday, April 2, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A raffle will also be held at the supper.
A tractor pull will be held Friday night, June 8 at 7:00 p.m. with Tri-State Truck & Tractor Pullers at
a cost of $9,900. An antique car show may be held prior to the pull.
The Fairest of the Fair Banquet will be held Thursday, May 3, with social hour at 5:30 p.m. and
banquet at 6:00 p.m.
Motion by Dan Timmerman, seconded by Mark Stead, to adjourn. Motion carried.
The next regular scheduled meeting is set for February 19, 2018, at 9:00 a.m.
