HomeMy WebLinkAbout03 Minutes March 18 2019AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, March 18, 2019 9:00 a.m. The meeting was called to order by Committee Chairman Roger Guthrie. Present, in addition to Guthrie were John Patcle, Mark Stead, Mike Lieurance, Gary Northouse, Bob Keeney, Amy Olson, Paul Ohlrogge, Amanda Cauffman, Bev Doll, Shane Drinkwater, Rick Sanson, Vince Heiman and Kathi Mead. The meeting notice was posted at the UW-Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center and mailed to media and Administration Building by Lori Vesperman and posted on the website by the Grant County Clerk’s Office. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Gary Northouse, to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Gary Northouse, to approve minutes of the meeting held February 18, 2019. Motion carried. Grant County UW-Extension and Youth & Agriculture Center business was presented. Agent reports were given by Bev Doll and Amanda Cauffman. Paul Ohlrogge gave the Area Extension Director update. Eight Farm Progress Scholarship applications were reviewed. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Gary Northouse to award the Farm Progress Days Scholarship to Haylie Birchman. Motion failed. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to award the Farm Days Scholarship to Hannah Nusbaum. Motion carried. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to approve UW-Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds business. Rick Sanson, WGLR, presented Trivingo to the committee to replace Tri-State’s Got Talent. Amy will work with Rick to get more details for the board. Amy has been working on sponsorship and promotion for the 2019 Fair along with other planning details. She will purchase two racks for the clothing department. Wording for new rules in the fairbook will be expanded for better understanding. Amanda Cauffman expressed concerned about losing Spring Valley Meats, that is going out of business, as a location for market animals to be sent to from the fair. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Gary Northouse, to use Avon as an additional locker plant for a location to send fair market animals if Avon agrees. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Gary Northouse, to move to closed session per state statute 19.85 (1) (c) considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility as it relates to the performance evaluation of the Grant County Fairgrounds & Operations Manager. Roll call vote unanimous. Motion carried. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to return to open session. Motion carried. Vince Heiman and Kathi Mead from Badgerland Midways presented information on their carnival and the possibility of playing the Grant County Fair in the future. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to approve fairground vouchers. Motion carried. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Roger, to approve the livestock claim in the amount of $150 to the Grant County Humane Society and send on to the full county board for approval. Motion carried. Amy may need the committee to help serve at the Pork Supper Fundraiser. Food is ordered. The fundraiser needs to be advertised in the paper and on the radio. Amy handed out the agenda for the District 3 Fair Meeting in Tomah on April 3. Mark Stead, Mike Lieurance, Roger Guthrie and Amy will be attending. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to adjourn. Motion carried.
