HomeMy WebLinkAbout09 Minutes September 21 2020 Ag and ExtensionAGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, September 21, 2020 9:00 a.m. The September 21 meeting was held in the South Room of the Youth & Agriculture Center and by Zoom. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pat Schroeder. Present in person were Chairman Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Mark Stead, John Patcle, Mike Lieurance, Gary Northouse, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Paul Ohlrogge, James Schneider and Shane Drinkwater. Present by Zoom were Amanda Cauffman, Donna Peterson, Bev Doll, Charisse Orth and Amanda Degenhardt. The meeting notice was posted at the Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center, Administration Building, on the Grant County website and emailed to media. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Gary Northouse, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve minutes of the meeting held August 17, 2020. Motion carried. Grant County Extension and Youth & Agriculture Center business was presented. Educator reports were given by James Schneider, Donna Peterson, Amanda Patterson, Bev Doll and Charisse Orth. Discussion was held on Clean Sweep possibilities for Grant County. James Schneider and Paul Ohlrogee will pursue further information on options. The proposed 2021 Extension Budget was reviewed and discussed. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Mike Lieurance to send the budget on to the full County Board. Two no votes. Motion carried. Paul gave the Area Extension Director update. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to approve Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds Business. Discussion was held on a planned event by Brianna White and parents of Lancaster High School sophomores. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Mark Stead, to allow Brianna White to rent the Eckstein Exhibit Hall for a homecoming dance for Lancaster High School sophomores and their dates. Motion carried. Scheduling for 2021 use of buildings on the Fairgrounds were discussed. The schedule of timelines for events will return to the same as before COVID-19, with guidelines to be followed. These guidelines will be continually revised for 2021 to follow CDC guidelines for cleaning. Discussion was held on winter storage rental rates. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to change storage rates from $100 for the first 20’ and $5 for each additional foot, to $150 for the first 20’ and $10 for each additional foot. Rates will take effect for the 2020-2021 storage year. Motion carried. The proposed 2021 Youth & Agriculture Center and Fair budgets were reviewed and discussed. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Mike Lieurance to send the budget on to the full County Board. Motion carried. The committee gave Amy authority to work out details with Jeff Bahl regarding his request to hold an event on the Fairgrounds this year. The event will need to be held no later than October 31 and the rental fee will be $2,000. Discussion was held on the District Meeting held September 17. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to pay livestock claims in the amount of $775 to the Grant County Humane Society. The County Board approved the claims at the September 15 meeting, contingent upon this committee’s approval. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Mark Stead, to adjourn.
